Bogus commercial.  A John Deere will also out pull a Ferrari.  A two-stroke will always have more low end than a four-stroke, but it doesn't mean that the four-stroke will put out less power or be less economical.  I'd love to have a new Etec or G2, but commercials like this are a slap in the face to anyone with any basic knowledge of the subject.

"Marketing math" is a magical thing and does, to most, what they intend - get someone to buy their product.

Rick,
We have an 82 25xf with an 89 Johnson vro 225. It runs great! It gets yearly service and we pamper the whole rig. My question though is, our Harbormaster/ex Coast Guard says with a 25 year old motor we ought to think repower. With this season almost over here in Maine, we have thought too, should we follow that logic. So we'd look in the off-season for a deal. The 4-strokes are much heavier than the 225 looper. The etec is lighter than 4-strokes. The old girl runs great, words of our mechanic, Graves Dry Land Marine, Orrington, Maine(yes that is a plug for Great Boat Guy!). I have also heard the debate of: How many hours are you on the water? What is the real fuel consumption of the looper v. 4-stroke v. etec at cruising about 20-22 knots, and/or are there any other newer technologies for replacement with a new 225 being somewhere in the $15-20,000.00 range? Your insight on etecs or referring to any objective testing on any motor would be an immense help. Thanks, Gary and Suzy
Maine25XF. Late to the gate we love our boat. Others are humbled by the Sally-Carol. We treat her like family, only better! If you have any tips, insights, or positions on the health benefits of two-stroke exhaust,  please opine and inform. Gary

Hi Gary,
I'm no expert by any means but as I stated in the other post about the same thing - I'd run it into the ground and then worry about a new motor.  Just keep SeaTow up to date.
