How to confirm temp gauge accuracy?

Well, thanks to all the help from the folks here at CAS.com I blew out the gas line as to clear out the screen on the pickup inside the tank aNd all is well, next chapter is cooling. I brought this up one time before but my temp gauge never reads higher that 130 and the inlet hose on the heat exchanger gets top hot to touch. Also the overflow antifreeze is cold. How can I verify the engine running temperature? I have fear of overheating this 470 as it can be a common problem of these motors.

This what I use to confirm engine temps. Point it anywhere on the engine, heat exchanger, coolant temp, exhaust manifolds.

^I agree with Fitz. And if you shoot it at the base of your temperature sensor, you should get a reasonable comparison to your gauge.

It worked, temp gauge is no good and the engine runs between 168 and 200, (sender , heat exchanger, exhaust manifold ....) thanks for the idea!
