power issue
« on: May 27, 2015, 10:05:59 PM »
Good evening ladies and gents. I bought a 1983 Aquasport 222 family fisherman in 2012 and converted it from an I/O to a Outboard on a bracket. The ignition works and motor turns over fine but absolutley none of my accessories work. i.e. bilge, radio, fishfinder. etc. a i missing something?

I'll post more in the morning from work.
First place to look is at the main fuse coming off your battery and leading to your positive buss(power distribution) for those accessories you mentioned.

P.S. Welcome aboard. :salut:

ok thank you. I'm novice with boats, but I'm great with cars and trucks and mechanically inclined. I'm learning as I go so any help is much appreciated. I've been redoing the boat little by little since 2012 and it is finally running and now this. I know it's a small bump in the road but have my first fishing trip planned with my brothers this weekend and would like to fix it before then.

Thank you Again

First,
Here's some light reading from our Resource forum.
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=9053.msg125080#msg125080

As you go through the different threads, you'll find some on boat wiring along with other helpful stuff for wrenching on your craft.

Back to the main fuse I mentioned. My 84 had an old "cartridge type"  inline fuse. This was wired between the battery switch and the positive buss bar under the console. Power for my accessories were fed from there to the dedicated switch panel and then to each one. Since you have so many not working, I would check that first. A few pics of what you have electrically would help to point you in the right direction.

Below is a link to a pic showing the fuse I'm referring to. It's somewhat hard to make out but if you follow the curled red wire coming out of the battery selector switch, you can spot the black fuse holder hidden under the mass of wires at the bottom center of the pic(to the right of the Garmin label). Note that after it exits the fuse holder, it connects to the lower right post of the glass type fuse panel (the one missing fuses :ScrChin:). If you can find something like this, check the function of the fuse and holder first. It may solve your power problem.

I tried to pick a photo that might be what you would encounter but again, a few pics of what you have will help.

Good luck. :thumright:

Ok all fixed. much appreciated info. It was actually quite simple to figure out the old ignition still had the hot wire on it still so i moved it from the old to the new and the panel lit up like a Christmas tree. Stupid oversight but your pic helped me figure it out.

Thank you Again
