Proper Hull ID number
«
on:
August 06, 2006, 07:41:56 AM »
Does "ASPA 1252G687" appear to be a feasible hull ID number for a 29 foot 1987 Aquasport tournament master boat? That is, are the letters correct and the "G" in the number appropriate and in the proper place? Does the 87 at the end indicate year built? Would the 6 in front of the 87 indicate month built? Does the 1252 indicate the number built--that year or total all years to date? Thanks, fighterpilot.

The 87 at the end is the year number. The rest I don't know about. If someone else can't help you, you can wade throught the USCG website about boat manufacturing. They specify how the HIN is determined.

Right number of letters & numbers... although I thought the Aquasport mfg. code was ASPS. Maybe the last letter indicates the model...

Appreciate all the help. I may have a problem however. I haven't seen the boat yet but the surveyor said paint had obliterated the hull number but he thought the first four were ASHH and the broker says on the title the HIN is ASPA and the HIN site on the web on numbering says ASP is museum. Not sure what we have but I am going to see the boat Thursday. At least I am a little smarter. Thanks, Fighterpilot

Examined the boat-ASP is in place but the next is a letter and not sure if A or maybe an H. Title has A. JimCt what does the S stand for in your hull number? Coast Guard Search says ASP is Museuem.??? Fighterpilot

Don't know what the "S" means in the code. Just assumed it was part of the mfg. code designator. Maybe designates the hull model?

More hull number questions

As noted in an earlier post the third letter in the hull number on my 29 Tournament Master is difficult to read. The title to the boat says it is an A, but it looks more like an H to me. Checking hull number references the ASPA or H doesn't seem to work at all for Aquasport and when I went to the insurance company they said "vin" doesn't match boat. My total number is ASPA 1252G687. Does anyone else have a Tournament Master, vintage 1987? If so what is your hull number? thanks. fighterpilot

Maybe ask the insurance company what VIN would fit the boat?

One can go to the USCG recalls database and search with only "aquasport" entered and Aquasport comes up with ASP as Aquasport, Inc. and AQA as Aquasport Division.
Just another tidbit in the mysteries of Aquasport.

The USCG dooumentation has the hull number as ASPA1252G687. Guess the ASP is correct but the next letter is not clear and seems inconsistent with the hull numbering scheme I have seen in my searches. Didn't expect to find a fourth letter there. I will ask the insurance company about the mismatch they have. Hope it is the last A and not some other problem. Really having a tough time getting insurance here in Florida. Thanks, fighterpilot

What did the state registration bureaucracy say about the VIN?

JimCT--interesting situation-since boat was documented they said all I would need was release from USCG and bill of sale. Since bill of sale and USCG documentation HI both match that is what I am going to take to them. Coast Guard release is in the mail so I am told from the broker. I'll let you know how I make out. fighterpilot
