Hull ID prefix and date code
« on: March 20, 2015, 08:31:38 AM »
Interested in a potential project.....
but not sure on HIIN numbers the fella sent.
Does ASPH as prefix make sense?
Also....the whole number I thought gave a 'date code'....but this one does not make sense like my 200 Striper's that ended in 90.
Any clues on how to interpret a date????
Thanks.

A little more detail here (app for your iPhone) and also includes CJs link.

http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=2527.0

ASP indicates Aquasport Inc. (page #8)
http://www.oregon.gov/osp/cjis/docs/boat.pdf

The H indicates (I believe) to be the model type. Remember lettering from the CCPs; the 200s were ASPP and the 222s were ASPA.

Mod Edit:
I found the post below and will give credit to its original poster.

HIN - the first 3 letters are the manufacturer code - ASP - I think the next letter is for the model - P for 20 foot CCP, and A for 22 foot CCP.  The next letters are hull serial numbers, and the final 3 are for year and month produced.

Only the first 3 letters indicate the manufacturer - all are ASP.  Under Genmar, Aquasport switched to OUA in 1988, AQA in 1990.

Hope this helps - see ya on the water!

Yep,
The "H" may very well indicate a Sandpiper. Problem is, I don't know if I've seen an SP HIN. I'll have to look. Along with yours, it would support the idea. :det1:

AM, what type hull are you looking at?

Have only seen a pic or two....and a bit hard to make out.
Seems to have 'suffered' some significant 'remodeling'.....looks like a center console now, rather than a dual console Sandpiper.
Was listed as a 24'
The date digits he sent were 14.....but suspect they are 74.
Judging from the pics I have .......might be a stretch to 'bring her back'.

OK....seems in pre-84, AS used the optional HIN method and I suspect this boat was made in June 74.
So.....anyone have a list of what letters AS used to designate the model? Or was there no consistency?
For that matter, anyone have an H after the ASP ?

the plot thickens......
After trying to study the pics I have.....it seems this boat might be a 240 Seahunter (????)
Matches up with a pic I found :

except the pic was an I/O. This boat is O/B.
Maybe the H means Hunter (???)

Any thoughts on this model?

 How about this....

Post the complete HIN and a pic or two of the hull.

Looks like the miami listing boat......although no where close to that unmolested condition. In fact, had tried to buy the miami boat.....but sold in a matter of days. My luck!
