Florida Restoration/rebuild: who to use?
« on: September 04, 2015, 08:47:09 PM »
Wanted to see if anyone would be willing to provide recommendations on a good shop to do a complete restore from the stringers up for a 24-26 foot center console aquasport type hull.

I do not have the time or expertise to do DIY..

I care more about quality and am willing to pay for a high quality rebuild- although I am still cost conscious.

I have debated between doing the restoration piecemeal ( fiberglass guy, then rigging somewhere else, and then shopping around for best price on motor, etc.

Versus a one stop shop...

I live in the Tampa/st. Pete area but would be willing to take the boat outside of this area, even over to the east coast.

Any recommendations good or bad would be greatly appreciated. I assume most would prefer to PM which is fine with me.

I'd also appreciate any advice from others that have taken a similar approach to the restoration process.

I have heard of the commonly mentioned shops in Tampa. I hear there are some good shops down the palmetto way and across the state in Stuart area but I don't know much about them....

Thanks

Young Boats in Inglis does rebuilds.  They aren't cheap, but they do great work.  If you are familiar with their line of boats, you know they do quality work.  I am doing my own rebuild, but I had them gelcoat my hull a few weeks ago.  I also get many of my supplies from them, as well as advice.

Also, to your south, Eugene Sun also does good work.  He used to be active on this site, but I haven't seen him post recently.  I'll look for his number and PM it to you.  I used to purchase my supplies from him, but he stopped doing that.  He also gave great advice.
