Wake Cutting Pics and More
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:14:34 AM »
Been a long time since I have posted anything. The other day my dad took these photos of my boat cutting his wake. In the pictures you can see how good the flatback can cut and divert the spray. Pretty cool shots.

Question: Tabs up or down?

Oh yeah, welcome back!

Thanks all... The tabs were around the 10% down position. If you do not have tabs on this style hull you are missing out. You can achieve two completely different rides depending on conditions. I have operated all different types, and makes of hulls and the Aquasport FB is very different. Not in a bad way, but just requires more input and adjustments by the operator (porta-bracket, tabs, and trim). After I looked at the pictures I knew I had to post them on the forum!

The boat is now well into 6 years after rebuild and doing well. I did Kiwi Grip my floor last year and it looks much better. I recommend that product.  The boat is such an awesome multi use boat from a hardcore fishing machine to a family friendly platform that is fuel efficient. In the 6 years the boat has been in the FL Keys offshore 25 miles, Gulf of Mexico, Tampa Bay, Lake Tarpon, Lake Huron, Saint Clair River, Lake Saint Clair, Lake Huron, and Otter Lake. I have towed the boat from FL to MI through the Appalachian Mountains and back again to FL. The other day I looked at the trip log on my chart plotter and it read 1600 miles. Now there have been a couple times I went out and forgot the unit at home.

I had a full cover made for the boat after completion along with bow dodger, eisenglass in front of the console and wraps around to cover the sides of the tower, and cushions all over.

The power pole is awesome however needs a rebuild (hardware only) bigger bolts. The new PP has much bigger bolts that i need to upgrade to. The leaning post/livewell needs a back rest soon, well overdue! I also upgraded the sound system for the island time entertainment. The girls love it! LOL... I will post some more photos of this vessels journeys I have a ton.

Nothing better then watching a 42' Yellowfin try to do a simple anchoring evolution for 45min at the island while he's yelling at the wife the whole time, because it's all her fault....haha  Oh by the way you got three 350s to make it easy. Try close quarters maneuvering with a flatback, 12"x12" Trolling Tabs, and porta bracket.

Those pictures make me want to move to FL.

Then I remember all the times I've been there and how it never really was cool; always hot (except the one time I drove to Miami for a bowl game with nothing but short sleeves, because after all, its Miami...and the low the night of the game was like 42deg.)

In all seriousness, that's a pretty boat.  My next boat purchase (which may be the one that precedes my first divorce) is going to be a skinny water boat of some description...and after looking at yours, I could certainly stand to keep it in the AS family.

Flatbacks do take some getting used to, but seem to be the near perfect compromise for shallow water and rough water.  Still amazes me how dry they ride, but with no spray coming off the hull until behind the console the pictures really show its just about impossible to get wet.

Once again it has been awhile since my last post. Over the last year and a half we have moved over to the Stuart/Jupiter area, purchased a home, and welcomed another Aquasport enthusiast to the family on January 8th 2013. Boat was not used as much as I would like with the pregnancy and new baby arrival. However, this year we are looking forward to more fishing and boating days. I recently had Quality T-Tops make a nice backrest for my seat, as you can see they did a great job. I also coated my tower with the Boat Show Custom Coatings product and although it is a process I highly recommend it. The tower looks better then when it was new.
