Interesting read, and interesting as well that UT and LM are "players" in this little boondoggle. I'm sure some former (and maybe current) high ranking honchos at both companies are benefitting "improperly" from the Russian engine deal.
When my uncle, Lt. Gen. George Sammet, retired from the Army, he was hired by Martin-Marietta (my former employer) as VP of materials. And even though he was widely known in army circles as a logistics and supply expert, the REAL reason he was hired was because of his Pentagon contacts...read that "swaying programs Martin's way". This kind of under-the-table, slieight-of-hand, backroom, "improper" dealing has been going on in that industry for years, despite the best efforts by congress and the DoD to clean it up. Trust me, I know. So although it pisses me off that this kind of chit takes place, especially with Russia, it certainly doesn't surprise me. What REALLY pisses me off is that the Russians couldn't do this chit without the inside help of certain uppity-ups in certain large companies, along with a little help from certain uppity-ups in congress...

This is my uncle George, a spitting image of my Grandpa...
http://www.goordnance.army.mil/hof/1990 ... ammet.html
Note the last sentence..."continued to serve ordnance in the private industry." Wink, wink...
He was my Mom's second oldest brother, he died 2 years ago and is now interred in Arlington National. My Mom was very close to her brothers (a tomboy to the nth!), and now all 4 of them have passed away. I really feel for my Mom sometimes, as she was always so close to her brothers. She has my Dad (58 years of marriage so far), but those "boys" always took care of my Ma...

Funny you say that Scotty. His son, George Jr. (actually George III), who's a year older than me, we looked a LOT alike. But he really dumped on his wife, who was a sweetie, haven't talked to him in years. Real shame...
