aquasport 225 starboard list
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:33:37 PM »
I have an 02 ase.  My boat lists to starboard when sitting in the water at the dock.  I do have a trolling motor on the starboard side but the 109 lbs shouldn't make it list that much.  Are there places that can hold water on the outboard sides besides the fresh water tank?  I'm referring to the bilge area.

Daja vu

First off, please, please, please post a photo looking at the stern so that we can see exactly what you see. What appears as a list to some owners is nothing more than placement of components in the boat such as the kicker, battery(s), gear etc.

How bad is the list?
1", 2", 6"?

Yes water can traverse from bow to stern but let's first see if you have a problem or it's just the nature of the craft.

Good luck.

I tried to post pictures but having issues with it on my phone, will post when I get back from this fishing trip.
You implied that this is not uncommon?
Care to share your past experiences with the issue?

The list is maybe 2"?  The bottom of the deck drain thru hull is under water if that helps any?

Excellent. Photos are necessary in a case like this to really see what the owner is seeing.

Over the years on this and other forums, lists to either side always seem to come up from time to time.

Here's a link to one that is current and should give you a baseline to start with regarding yours.

Please note that the owner doesn't post a photo of the list so it makes it more of a "guessing game" for the members trying to help. Also note the usual suspects (water in bilge, batteries, gear etc.) listed as to probable cause for the list. Lastly, read carefully all the things the owner tries in "finding" the cause and how it all comes to a close.

This will give you an idea as to the layout below deck on your boat.

Water can work it's way from the forward compartments to the bilge. Drains are installed to allow the side compartments, should they get water in them, to also drain to the bilge. For the most part, they seem to function well (at least from what I've experienced in my craft and from reading on this Forum). Doesn't mean they are "clog proof" but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Sounds similar to what I've seen over time.
Water trapped on the starboard side could indeed be a cause. Both batteries on that side also. Over time (though your hull isn't as old as many here), these girls get dumpy in the stern. Looking for a clogged drain on that side is a start but so is getting a good handle of what is really located there too.

If you keep articles stored on the boat, moving them forward where possible may help also.

Pics are a big help. We and the ABC group have a lot of these hulls so it makes it easier on everyone if they can actually "see" the list. Hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about.

Good luck and post up what you find. We appreciate it.
