Motor Weight Question ????
« on: September 11, 2014, 02:55:57 PM »
Getting to the end on our rebuild and we got our mind set on the Suzuki 175. My question is how will this motor affect the boat sitting in the water being that it weighs 485lbs (25 inch) . FYI we raised the floor about 3-3.5 inches and were going to put a 6inch jack plate on the boat (open transom) no porta bracket.

Opinions , comments are appreciated

Thanks

Scott, its a 22 flatback.

Did you raise the transom for the 25"? As for effecting how it sits, that is a loaded question with way to many variables that are not mentioned. Is there a livewell and if so where is placement, size. Fuel tank size and placement? Tower, rebuild materials and style (ie. casting deck size).

So without out that info sort of hard to say but using the wag (Wild azz guess) factor, not to bad and pretty much as it did when original. It should still self bail due to raising the deck along with removing the trough at the back.

You originally were going to put a porta on it, did you change your mind?

OH 1 last thing...... WHERE IS THE BOAT PORN

Sorry its a 22 Flatback , 65 gallon tank , the fuel tank is moved as far forward as possible, we cut a section of the middle stringer out and made the fuel tank to fit in there. Transom was already at 25inches . reason for not enclosing the transom and gong the porta bracket was is because I'm 24 and on a budget !!!!!!! Even though my dad is helping me out a little I figured i save some money for the motor/electronics and just go the jack plate route. No tower , live well will betaken in/ out of the boat when its needed and not needed. Gonna have 3-5 batteries in the console so that will help a little . Small casting deck in the from . The whole boat has been foam filled. Ill try and post some pictures

Thanks for the help

Here is the link to my photo album , couldn't get the pics to upload here . The console is going to be cut down 12 inches and a door will be made for the front like our contender , it will either open as one big door or or two small ones .

I like that color and console. Where did you get it if you don't mind? I think your boat will sit fine and have no issues with self bailing.

We have a 27 Contender and basically built the same console out of 3/4 plywood , just scaled it down a little

Kevin, thanks for the upload :thumright:

Would say you're good to go on the 175 regarding weight/balance based upon your component placement :salut:
