But...had to go back to just motor...pardon the darkness.



Can't see worth a crap in that dark picture, I now realize, but that's where I ended up putting that honking huge transducer and its little 200khz brother.

An expensive one at that, Craig.  It's an Airmar TM260, the transom mount twin to the B260 t/hull ducer, which requires an almost 4" hole in the bottom of your boat... :shock:

Bob,

Wouldn't something that size act similarly to a trim tab?

So if running a single standard rotation engine....you would mount it to the port side of the engine?

Or am I thinking too anal? :mrgreen:

Scott, no, you want to locate any transducer on a single engine boat about 18" to starboard...on the downward swing of the prop.  With twins (counter rotating), mount it as close to the keel as possible.

The Glacier bay was weird "keels" on the sponsons.  Basically a 4" wide pad, then pretty sharp deadrise going up from the pads.  Normally with a transom mount, you want the inboard edge just above the hull bottom, the outboard edge just below.  Hard to do on this boat, as the deadrise is so sharp.  So I've given him +/-1/2" of up/down play, really won't know until it hits the water.

In regards to acting like a tab, that is entirely possible.  Don't know, as this is the first of the big transom mounts I've done.  The instructions from Airmar read very simalarly to their smaller ducers...

Well, I think my transducers are too low (spraying like a SOB), and I think my idle's too low...but I'm still calling tonight's test run a success.

Awesome part is I forgot to grab plugs for the scuppers (previously well below water-line), and didn't even realize it until we stopped to watch the sunset that I'd not had anything in the holes.  Still lower in the water than I'd like, but even with 1-1/2" of Coosa Bluewater 26, it rose a good 1"+ at rest in the water.  Wife and I at the helm, water was just lapping in and out.  If either of us went to the stern, she squatted enough to put water up the rigging trough, but never enough to get the deck wet.

Thanks for the help along the way.  Now aside from raising my transducers and some piddly little stuff, I think I'm close to set for the summer!   :thumright:
