Low cylinder pressure? Cost..

Looking at a CCP with a 200 Merc on it, has a pressure of 65psi on port lower cylinder...trying to get an idea of the cost to fix either that one cylinder vs rebuild the entire thing..Any advise is appreciated as I want to make up my mind on this boat before the weekend gets here..so if it's a no-go I can continue looking elsewhere..

Farley (Fitz) is your man on this one.  But going on what Scott said about the no oil I'd just plan on a full rebuild.  Good thing is there are a bunch of go fast guys that love the 2.5 Merc so there are a bunch of parts and places that can get her going again.

If you're going to get into her for one cylinder you might as well do them all.  The cost will depend on the condition of the crank and the rods/bearings.  You won't know until you look.

That's about what I figured :o  I did get to talk with Farley(fitz) earlier today for 20 minutes or so...very enlightning said about the same, probably looking at a complete rebuild, and with the info Scott got, with the motor being run without oil and the alarm taped off, good bet would be the other cylinders aren't in great shape..The saga continues

Lew and I talked about this in Octoberfest.
I believe it is better to spend a little more and do it all.
Gives you a solid starting point once rebuilt.

Rough numbers with out teardown, $7-800 per cylinder if crank is good.  Includes bearings, pistons machine work etc.  that is thru a reputable shop, not a side jobber.

The hinge point I stressed with Garry was the ability to find a reputable machine shop for the boring, hone and piston fit up. Each bore must be matched to each piston. Pistons are like snow flakes, each one is slightly different and must be fit to the bore. The good news is that 2.5's have a great secondary parts market. We also talked about block corrosion and that unknown. I doubt this rig saw much of a garden hose and probably just got driven and parked. We arrived at an offer number of $2200, about dead on with Bruce's number. That boat isn't going anywhere so the longer it sits the lower the offer.

I have a local Mercury mechanic near here, they said that if the bottom is not corroded away, and the crank is usable a rebuild of the entire powerhead would be 3k-3.5k, they do the teardown and all and rebuild all the carbs and check the oiling system..With a warranty. So there are options available or just re-power with EFI motor..

If you decide to repower, go all the way up to an Opti or 4stk , don't get a 3.0L EFI.  I feel the carbs get as good fuel economy as the EFI and you will know what you are getting with the rebuild.  We can hardly get rid of 3.0L EFI's around here, every one knows they are gas hogs.
