What hull to build ?
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:21:38 AM »
I'm looking to build a Tarpon/skinny water boat for Fla. West coast.  My friend wants me to build it for him. Bracket, jack plate , power pole , tower , ect.  Looks like the flat back is the one to build .  And I love the lines.  I found a 77 24.6 for free . Will this work or is it too deep of a V.  I'm in CT . So the boat will be shipped when done .
            Thanks for the input.

I would suggest you grab that hull, send me the address and I'll be out to get it...

I don't know what the guy is actually looking for draft wise, but I see that quite a few guys fish the 24 footers.

Seriously though, I will come pick that hull up. I'll even give you a finders fee...

Dave,

The 246 is the Deep V offshore hull and would not in any way, shape or form resemble a skinny water boat.  You probably should be looking for either a flatback (made only in the late 60's and early 70's, or its successor, the 12 degree 222.  They ride and handle differently, but both are very functional and popular as tarpon/bay boats on the west coast of Florida.

The flatties from Aquasport max'd out at 222.  There is a very early member that was making a mold out of a 222 and cutting it to add 2 more feet. Not sure if he ever got it done, that was a few years back.  If you want a 24 you may have to find an old Proline.
We have a subforum in the rebuilds forum for Prolines  :D

I'm not looking for a 24 , I was told the 24.6 I looked at was a 22.  It looked nothing like the 22's I've seen so I figured out what it was.  It had twins on it at one time .  We are looking for a 22.

Be patient. Keep checking Craigslist locally and in surrounding areas. Coastal Maryland and northward is a hotbed for 70's 22-2's.

Tucker,  Callyb would appreciate the 246 hull you've  mentioned. And since it's free...please obtain it.

Classic Aquasport is all about helping others. We  work together as a group for the betterment of the club.  We ship things, trade things, send gifts...

We're kinda different.

Now that we know you want a 22-2...we'll find you a nice one :salut:

Hang tight.

This is true! I drove out to Worcester, Mass to get my flatty. I'll make it happen.

I know where a 1971 is in Worcester, if you want I can try to get in touch with the owner and see if he's willing to sell? No idea how much he would want for it though? It was sitting on a nice aluminum bunk trailer when I saw it though.

Let me know Tucker.
