copy of registration on your boat
« on: November 21, 2013, 09:51:43 PM »
so last weekend I took the boat out for a quick afternoon fishing/cruise... kinda huridly got "everything" in the boat and got the boat in the water,,, it was about 15 minutes from the ramp, as I passed a Marine Patrol pulling over another boat, that I realized I did not have my registration on my boat...
normally i carry it in a ziplock bag in my boat-bag but I forgot that. so I was going to make a copy of it and my trailer registration and just leave them hidden on the the boat somewhere as a "back-up"...
if we get pulled over- is a copy just as good as the original?

Yes it is. All I ever carry though I keep the trailer reg. in the truck.
Be kinda tough to check the tag decal at sea.

Good luck.

i have a copy of the trailer reg in my truck also. 99% of the time- if the trailer is going somewhere- the boat will be on it.

-funny side store through--- about 2 years ago we too the boat down to Englewood for 4th of July... towed the boat back to my house in South Tampa without a problem.  was washing the boat the next day and noticed my trailer licence plate was missing... I figured it fell off at the ramp somehow or on the highway... about a week later, I'm getting ready for work when my girlfriend comes into the office and says, "There's 2 SWAT team members at the door for you"...
long story short- some fine citizens decided to steal my license plate and use it to cover theirs on the get-away car in a walmart robbery!

my new place is now bolted on with lock washers.

Even if you don't have your reg card, most fish fuzz/water po-po can check the reg numbers against your driver's license and see if you are current.   :rabbit:   Depends on their mood and how many donuts you have on board...  :pig:

Speaking of doughnuts and registrations, I dragged this little girl up from Ruskin (about 70 miles) the other day...

Pursuit 3070, 10' 6" beam...so I'm 2' over the max allowable width.  To top that off, when I hooked up the trailer and was checking the lights...oh goody, no effin tag!  And no tag in the truck!  At 2 in the afternoon, going straight through Tampa!

Figured I'd better pick up a couple dozen "bribes" (AKA Krispy Kremes), but much to my amazement, didn't see a single cop on my side of the road all the way home...

You NC folks must not have a current year decal on your craft?
Here (Fla), I would think that running the reg numbers on the boat would show that you actually owned it since the decal shows current registration. In any case, I believe the registration (original) that comes in the mail (if you renew that way) has a disclaimer in the envelope that states not to carry the original in your vehicle but rather a copy.

Yep CB we have decals, one year or three years.

I have never been asked to see the registration as of late. They ask your your DL # and SS #. They carry an I Pad, and after they enter the numbers, address you by name. Same on fishing licenses...I've forgotten mine, same set of questions, and address you by name.

Uncle Sammie is all knowing.
