Battery Location 1976 19-6

Just bought a 1976 Aquasport 19-6 cuddy cabin.
One thing I need help on is where do the battery/s go???  The previous owner had them in a wood box by the transom and I know this can not be right.

If so, the battery(s) may have indeed been located back at the transom.

Yep, Looks just like it.  The battery box that came with it is a home made wood one.
