Boca grande tarpon catch a break
« on: September 08, 2013, 10:02:16 PM »
Good news for tarpon anglers everywhere
The FWC passed new regulations on jig fishing in boca grande pass last week, the bottom weighted  jig that is designed to snag tarpon for TV as of  Nov 1st is against the law
Looks like the PTTS is hating it, no more exploiting a fishery for one persons $ gain

Matt,

I've fished that pass several times over the years and always wondered about those odd-shaped jigs and why tarpon were being hooked on them when other anglers offering live bait on the same drift were going fishless. Thanks for sharing the good news.

I have to agree that the PTTS is getting out of hand. That tournament has become nothing more than a bunch of guys seeing who has the umm biggest "privates".

I can drive my truck to the beach on BG, watch the chaos in the pass and my BP goes up. You can walk across the boats at some times during the chaos

The PTTS also works as a guide booking service taking a cut of the money for each charter booked and basically taking work away from the boca grande guides who fish the sporting traditional way Locally the PTTS are hated as they not only take money from local guides who have.fished the pass for generations but they also take over the pass with dangerous aggressive boat handling, which makes it hard for anyone else to safely fish while a tournament is going on
It's not all over yet as they already have events scheduled for next spring. Im sure the PTTS will come up with another jig that will snag tarpon but at least the FWC started the ball rolling with the new restrictions and seems to be on to them It's awesome to see all the sponsors dropping out of the PTTS (costa del mar, skeeter, yamaha etc)
Seahunt boats from NC hopefully will drop them next
