I must be getting old
« on: August 16, 2013, 04:38:48 PM »
Thought I would share this with you all, it's kinda embarrassing but WTH.
When I unhook the trailer from the pickup I use a 3 ton aluminum floor jack instead of the jack on the trailer. Makes it a whole lot easier hooking back up cause I can move the tongue some from side to side with the floor jack .
While a couple weeks ago I jumped in the boat to tinker with some stuff......boats on the trailer in  my shop..... I notice the boat seems to be swaying some, either that or I shouldn't of had that 3rd beer.
All of a sudden the floor jack kicks out from under the tongue of the trailer....of course I had it lifted all the way up on the jack..... made a hell of a bang when we hit the concrete.
Was loud enough that Barb came running out of the house to see if I was all right.
Luckily I had the overhead door up cause the trailer shot forward damn near 2 feet.
Needless to say I am thinking WTF !!!
While I access the damage, there is pretty good scrape to the hull where the floor jack hit it, but it is only cosmetic..nothing a little bondo and paint won't take care of.

While this has never happened before so I just figure it was a freak thing, right.

While stupid me jacks the trailer up again with the floor jack, hook up to the pickup and back her back in the shop.
I grab the floor jack to take the trailer off the receiver...the trailer no sooner clears the ball on the receiver and  "KER BANG" the damn floor jack kicks out again, trailer hits the deck and slides forward a couple feet.
No damage to the pickup or boat this time, but my nerves are getting a little frayed..thank God I have about 4' of tongue between the  boat and pickup.

While I am pissed now, I am cussing and swearing wondering what the heck is going on.
After the second time I finally figured I better step back and try to figure out why this happened.
Didn't take long   I walked around the back of the trailer and about 2 feet behind the rear wheel of the trailer was a 3' long section of 4x8 right where I had put it 2 weeks earlier.

I had moved my table saw behind where I park the boat and had put down the 4x8 to stop me from backing into the table with the boat.

Morale of the story   ....about the only thing I can come up with is....watch your beer intake when parking the boat.

Bill, if it was a few years ago, I'd say Oly kicked up the notch a bit in their beer...

Ironically, the suburb of Chicago I grew up in?  Olympia Fields.  Guess I was predestined...

Bill,  when I kept my 200XF in my workshop I would use the floor jack now and then to lift the boat.... it was just faster.  I found out real quick that you had to chock the wheels before hand... otherwise that thing would roll than start to tilt.

I would guess that would be called a offboard charger.
