Ok, I'll try it. What do I set the multimeter on? And I assume I test each battery at rest, one at a time, and then, with the outboard running, test each with the selector switched to just one then the other to see that each is getting juice, right?

Multimeter on DC voltage, 20V. This measures any voltage less than 20. Check rest voltage on both batts. Fire up motor. Check voltage on start batt. Turn batt switch to ALL. Check voltage on house batt, you should see an increase over it's rest voltage.
