model years?

I am thinking to find an older (70's) 22' Aquasport to recondition for fishing the back water and occasionaly off shore on good days. Problem is I don’t know which year model I should be looking for. I interested to know what model years were “flat backs” built. When did they change the bottom configuration to a modified vee? Any info would be welcomed

Flatties were 66-71, 12 degree Walt Walters bottoms were 72- 77with variants being produced into the 80's. Then CCP's with a deeper dead rise. I'm a fan of 12 degree 72-76 mainly because they were a beautiful boat with a good balance of inshore draft and offshore (pick your day's) ability. The 12 degree mid 70's 22-2 was the most copied of any AS produced. The hull would plane at 20 mph which allowed you to get on top in just about anything without putting your kidneys in the bait boxes. The CCP's had a higher planing speed because of the dead rise but were capable in a nasty 4' slop/chop. There are camps for each hull design based on application. The flatties were not offshore boats but are the most nostalgic, the 12 degree 22-2's were the most pretty and a nice compromise for offshore duty and the CCP'S were far better offshore boats than than their earlier brethren.

Well put, Farley!
I agree on all accounts. If you want a "hybrid" boat that can handle flats almost as good as a Hewes (I'm exaggerating a tiny bit), do inshore to perfection, and offshore on
nice
days then the 12 degree models are the BOMB! :bom: (as long as they're not waterlogged
)
They're also GORGEOUS! :cyclops: (take a look at GRAN398's "Miss Delmarva" threads for a good example)
Capt Matt would likely also tell you that his recently (and amazingly) rebuilt flatty can do offshore much better than you'd think if you know/learn how to drive it.

Can you tell me what the dead rise on an 87 osprey is? And is the osprey hull and the cup hull the same but the cup has that deck cap and no casting deck?

Look here.
http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery ... -6&cat=574
It's shown as 12 degrees.
Not sure what a "cup" is but I'd guess you meant a CCP so...
No, the CCP hull and Osprey are two different hulls and caps.
