Removal of bowspirit pulpit
« on: July 02, 2013, 10:44:29 AM »
I was considering removing mine from my 225 osprey, has anyone on here done that and what would the pros and cons be?  If anyone has photos it would be much appreciated..  I seem to bang it each time I come to the ramp.  I am still working through getting use to new vessel but my old boat didn't have one and I could dock like a pro.  I am also considering removing bow rails at that time or at least bring it to the end of the new bow if I remove the bowspirit.  What say ye???

What year Osprey do you have?  As far as I know they are a molded in part of the cap so removal would be a huge project.  Are you banging it on the dock or on the trailer winch stand when you retrieve the boat?

I bang it on the dock and any thing else surroundings.  Am good getting on and off the trailer.  I have a 96 osprey.  it might be simpler to become a better captain.

I think that is the way to go.  How are you approaching the dock?  My pulpit is never near the dock.  But I don't know what the layout of the docks you are using.  Remember to use the current and wind to your advantage when you can.

Jolly, you would have to do a lot of glasswork to cut off the pulpit, then re-glass the opening to match the deck...

I'm kinda with yourself and Bruce on this one.  I assume your catching pilings with the pulpit.  Bruce's 245 Explorer has the exact same pulpit as your 225 Osprey...
