  Yep, I did it. Two huge mistakes. Launched my 1998 175 w/ 90 h.p. rude even without checking plug or bilge pump. Made it back by bypassing contaminated fuel with remote tank . ( did one thing right). The previous week replaced fuel sending unit. So here's my questions.
1. Can I reuse that gas after it separates?
2. How long does it take to separate?
3. Would the big filter with a tiny screen work for filtering the contaminated fuel?
4. Should I just trash the gas and go about my bussiness?
5. And lastly, how does the bilge pump hook up and how do I test it. And Sea Bob please feel free to check in. Thanks to all in advance.

if it is ethanol.... its trash since it will absorb the water...  when it seperates...  that is phase separation not just water.... so it is junk.  If it is non ethanol then the water will settle out on the bottom

Do you have a bilge pump AND float switch?  If so, brown off the pump, 1 gray off the float, combine them and that runs forward to the switch at the helm.  That enables you to turn on the pump manually.  The second gray wire off the float goes straight to the battery or to batt 1 or 2 if you have a battery switch.  That enables the float to turn on the pump automatically.  Black off the pump to ground.  Protect the single wire off the float with a fuse (10A will do) within 7" of the batt or batt switch.

To test, it depends what type of float you have.  Some have a round knob on the side you turn.  Some have a lever on the back side you push down on.  Once you find which type you have, use that function to turn on the pump via the float.  If you have a battery switch, turn the switch to OFF, then try the test knob/lever.  With the batt switch OFF, the pump should turn on via the float, but not the switch at the helm...

If it's non-ethanol then a Mr. Funnel works just great for getting the water and trash out.  No fuel goes in my boat or even my lawnmowers without going through a Mr. Funnel.  West Marine also sells these under their own name.

The big one is better if you are filtering gas station/marina gas straight from the pump and pumping many gallons.  I have the standard because 90% of my fueling is from 5 gal. cans.  My boat takes gasoline so slow that the regular funnel works for it even from a gas pump.  Hell, my boat is so slow taking fuel that I have to be careful with 5 gal. cans or it will back up on me.  It only holds 16 gallons and I have never used more than 6 gal in a day's fishing so it's no big deal.  I would have to cut the deck to access it to fix it.

Yes, it does pick up trash and water from gas stations at times.  Not a lot, but it only takes one speck of dirt to plug a jet.
