Value? Not a Aquasport/But a Pursuit
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:12:19 PM »
Friend looked at this boat last night.
Local boat.
225 has 900 hours.
Boat not been in the water for 3 years, started it on a hose, appears it needs a  water pump
1 owner boat, always stored inside , solid, no rot issues, well maintained
No electronics to speak of, a old loran is about it.
So what kinda of offer should he make ?

$7500.  Hell, the Yammi is 20 years old!  All the wiring in the boat should be replaced...

Leon Slickers has always built a great boat, but the ancillary stuff was out of his control...

Corner of 520 and A1A...

Bob took the words out of my mouth about Leon Slickers building a good boat!

That thing looks clean in the pics.  But you still have to look at it like this...  What do you have there? a Trailer, a Hull, a outboard and a kicker right?  What do you think each one of those is worth?  The Motor is worth what $1800- $2000?  the kicker motor $750?  The trailer $1200?  And lastly the hull since it is clean say $3000 -$3500?  So what is the total of all that $6,750- $7,450?    Maybe $8K tops.   $14K?  no way you can buy a much much newer boat for that kind of coin.

EDIT: OK I just saw the 9.9 is a newer four stroke... even then whats it worth? $950?

Well, It seems very high priced for what is there.

I would think there are much better deals out there.
I think 8000.00 is about the ceiling on this?
Just my 2 cents worth

It will be interesting to see what it ends up selling for.
Boats in my corner of the nation seem to go for as much as 25-35% higher than other parts of the country. Why that is who knows.
My friend going to let them sit on it a while then throw out a offer.

My brother had a 84 20 ft cuddy Pursuit.....
I have always like the 80s era Pursuits.
Built like a brick chit house, clean lines, lots of fishing room and pre urine transoms.

good point on the regional prices.  I guess the prices here might not apply in your neck of the woods.  Even if you add 15%... 14 K is still way high.

Hi Bill, I do agree, However, where I live may be about the highest prices of anything for sale. Aside from Hawaii or maybe New York City.
My guess of $8000.00 as the price was for down here.
Good idea, if you buddy wants it, let it sit for a bit, I really don't think anyone is going to offer anywhere near the asking price.

Bryan, I know you to be an excellent businessman...and in that regard, here's something to ponder.

It is not beyond the realm of possibility to have us source six or eight quality hulls at a good price over here...and ship them west to you via semi. May sound far-fetched...but if we locate hulls here that are in high demand there....you could pick up a quick 20K or so in profit given eight hulls to work with.

Bear in mind...we love to buy boats over here. We beat 'em down 'till they give in...just to be done with us

Scotty, that is so funny.
I was just talking with an old friend today about that very same thing.
We had a great friend in the 80's who passed away some years ago.
He was an excellent marine mechanic.
He did that exact thing on a one on one bases.
He had a friend that towed from here to FL.
He would tow a boat back about once a month.
In all the boats he did, I don't think he ever lost a dime.
He cleaned them up and did the small repairs, I remember I purchased a 17 Mako from him
I think I paid about 3 or 4 grand, they were 6 grand here all day long.
I would love to do it on a side business, however, the storage is dear.
I could hide one or two but no real space for more than that.
