Dam its hell getting old
« on: June 15, 2013, 09:41:33 AM »
Well since I brought it up, about my student taking his black belt test. I thought I would tell you about the results. He passed with flying colors. Butt, and I do mean butt. My old butt, on a big take down. For the first time on this technique, got my legs tangled up and came down on my right side, with my elbow caught under my right side  . Well if you said ouch, your thinking right.  Broke three ribs and had a lot of torn tissue. Sooooo I feel like a dummy. After doing that technique, at least 100 times, getting ready for the test. I should have known how to get my legs untangled and get my elbow out from under my side before hitting the mattes  . The rest of the guys on the black belt board, said I still bounce :bounce:  pretty good. Sooo I’m down for a few weeks.

I'm old enough to know better than to even try that kind of stuff.

We're kind of like NASCAR cars. They used to just hit stuff and bounce but as NASCAR has matured all the cars bounce less but have crumple zones. I think we fold up and crumple more now too.

I used to teach Shodokan and more recently Wado Ryu style.
I can tell you this, at 52 I hurt more and feel stiffer than a board some days.
I still go to the rec center and teach the kids, just no more heavy sparring anymore.
I like to get up and move in the mornings.

I teach chin-na and kempo and at 67, still enjoy doing so. But not being physically involved in black belt tests as the attacker. I like my normal job at these tests. Sitting on the board on my old butt, watching some on else getting the chit kick out of them  , not on the mattes being thrown on my butt.

Yes, I am getting better at writing things down to explain,
than getting kicked around in a sparring test.
