Georgia coast fishing
« on: April 26, 2013, 08:56:36 AM »
Made a trip to St. Simons island in the golden isles last weekend with some friends from ATL. Fished off the pier on St. Simons on Thursday and Saturday and on a charter our friends paid for on Friday. We didn't take the boat this time but we will next time. What a really pretty place!
Didn't catch much as the water is still right at 60 degrees but had a great time. Whiting, skates and stingrays.

Yep thats a 808! 19 6 Tidewater, F150 Yamaha.

Our capt for the day, Henderson Hope, his son actually has a 1988 222 Aquasport that they fish out of also. In August he does cast net charters for shrimp.

Great pics Lew!

Is it legal to bait for shrimp there?

No baiting in Georgia, but you can use tape on the net. He said he had one charter last year that the boat ended up with about 400 lbs. Of course he has a "products" license so you get to keep your limit and he sells the rest. He teaches how to throw the net for clients that have never done it.

Years ago my brother used to net shrimp off Charleston SC. I don't know much about it but it seemed they put poles in the water and threw the bait near the poles. Then after a period of time threw the nets at the base of the pole. Does that sound right?

Exactly right. Put the PVC poles out in a line....then come back and bait in front of the poles with cheap cat food. X marks the spot.

Drink a cold one...then go back to the first pole and get the party started. :thumright:

We can't bait here in NC. But outlaw types have been known to bait with wet hog feed in paper bags with rocks (fish meal) without the poles. Put the bait out around dock pilings, certain trees, stumps, etc.
