Rub Rail Aquasport 215 DC

The rub rail insert on my 99' 215 DC has pulled away around the pulpit on both sides.  This isnt the frist 215 DC that I saw this happen to.  It looks like the insert dried out over the years and shrunk.  Apparently its under alot of tension where it has to conform to the anchor pulpit.  I'm willing to replace the insert if thats the answer but have no idea what insert to buy.  It seems like there is a million different profiles to choose from.

Thanks for your post and membership. This post could possibly be redirected to the rebuild section, maybe not. Just so you'll know.

Can see how the stress from the hard curvature would cause a release/pooch. There are other board members more qualified to advise you on a correct fix.

I need to replace mine too, as it's somewhat separated at the bow pulput.  On my projects list. Every time you nudge a dock with your rub rail, you put more tension on that insert, especially if you're moving forward.  The motion of the boat pulls the insert backwards, and eventually will separate at the bow pulput. A wise classicaquasport member pointed this out to me, and I've tried to be more careful ever since!

The rubrail on a 215 DC was REAL tight in the pulpit corners as opposed to an Osprey or Explorer.  Sometimes we had to go into the anchor locker and t/bolt them to keep the extrusion from pulling out of the screws...

Heat gun and the palm of your hand, with an oven mitt.  Form the extrusion to the hull/deck curvature, then let off the heat, let the extrusion cool...

Taco doesn't make the gray insert anymore, looks like white (my choice) or black are the only alternatives..

Thanks for the replies fellas.  Bob, its only the insert that has popped out on both sides of the pulpit do you think its worth trying to heat or a lost casue?

The insert, when it was installed, stretches.  So, over the last 11 years, it has contracted to the point where it now won't go back into the extrusion with out being short at the transom...

I just tried to fix an '01 Wellcraft 210CCF rubrail with basically the same issues.  The extrusion was/is brittle and cracked out in a couple places, and the insert was a bitch to get back in (had to heat it about 3 feet at a time to get it back in)...think it might be time to go with a new insert...BTW, the WC used the same extrusion and insert as yours...
