Morse controls tilt/trim switch

Anyone have any ideas where I can find one of these?

One side of the switch is dead if I flip the switch around I can get the motor up if I swap the upper and lower wires I can get the motor to go down.  That's no fun when trying to get up on the trailer  :roll:







That is besides the obvious answer of Mexico  :shock:

Chris,
Never mind on the pic.  Why does that look like a Quicksilver top mount binnacle with a different handle?  10 to 1 the switch in a standard top mount with the switch on the side of the t-handle will fit/work...

Any way to disassemble the switch and clean the contacts?

Shure as chit Capt. Bob that is exactly what I was thinking and damned if it didn't work just fine.  Chit can I say chit on here?  Chit I just said it again ?!?!





cool ... for now however now I am curious from SeaBob's comment if this is a mongrel ization of someone else's handy work?

So does this not look factory to you?  I know you were involved in production for a time when these gals were being built.  Do you have a photo of what this "should be" anywhere I can reference?  

I would actually prefer a T-handle top with a side thumb switch.  That is if I can get my hands on one that will swap out on this shaft.  This one is very wide open to the weather in my opinion and with the indent and cap assembly it just never struck me as weather proof in any way other than the fact that it do have a pretty good layover top cover to the switch assembly itself with a rubber gasket that fits snug as heck. I was always concerned that water would find it's way into the shaft and into the control from there etc..

Looks like a Quicksilver to me too.  Had one just like it when I had a Merc on my 170.

Clean the contacts and it will work fine.
Looks similar to my Yamaha switch.

Those contacts look pretty burned up.  You can clean them but it won't last long.  Maybe until you can get a new switch ordered in.  The cap on that thing is like a funnel... probably directs the water right into the switch.  Poor design if you ask me.  Maybe you can put a condom on it to keep the water out!   :lol:

The problem with those switches in general is that the new replacements aren't much better. They feel mushy and had two go bad. Once, I came from fishing, washed the boat, went inside for about 5 minutes, came out side and had tilted up and was in full tilt and running by itself. The tilt motor was red hot. I turned the battery switch off to stop it. Water got into the switch and connected the up mode. I replaced it with a Bob's tilt switch intended to be mounted on the steering wheel and just mounted it on the console next to the throttle. It's a very heavy duty switch and completely water proof. That was 10 years ago in salt water and never had another problem.

Hey Fitz!

Thank you for that tip I will look that up and see if they are still available on the market.  You are absolutely right about these feeling sort of mushy.
