Gemlux Hardware Clearance
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:07:10 PM »
Just wanted to share some info...Gemlux has a clearance sale going on that SIGNIFICANTLY cuts the price on some of their high quality hinges (including friction hinges), latches, etc.  I just ordered a bunch of stuff for my rebuild, probably more than I will need.  It's just hard to pass up a sale like this!

I bought a couple of their friction hinges a month ago.  I thought I got a good deal, since they give about a 30% discount or so to members of another boating forum.  Then this sale shows up, so I had to buy more friction hinges and other items.  Prices are about 1/3 of what I paid last month.  And they make top tier stuff.  Glad you were able to take advantage!

I've been looking at the friction hinges lately.  Never had them before but liked the idea on all the front hatches for my boat.  What do you think about them?

Hard to say.  They look great, but I haven't installed them yet.  I can say that there is enough friction that I can't bend them by hand.  I have heard a lot of positive things about them, but occasionally someone says they lose friction over time or they start to squeak.  The Gemlux rep on THT says to just send them back when that happens and they will replace them, but I haven't seen a written policy yet.  I did order a couple extra sets at the clearance price just to store in case I ever need to replace them and Gemlux doesn't have any available under warranty.

I did find out that the friction hinges are on clearance due to the next generation coming out.  Gen 2 is supposed to have more friction.  So if you put these on and you find that your hatch is too heavy for the Gen 1 to hold up, you can replace them with Gen 2 (they will be identical sizes).  You can probably then sell your Gen1 hinges for at least what you paid for them.

Shipping is super fast also.  Ordered my hinges yesterday and they were at my door when I got home from work today.

I had to spring (err...hinge) for the new friction models too. Excited to try those out. - Got my cleats, gas fills/vents (for original twin tank console setup), plus latches, and thru-hulls; all on sale.

Thanks for the heads up CLM!

Nice haul, merkin!  Was all that from the clearance sale?

Here's another tip...are you a member of The Hull Truth (THT) boating forum?  If so, Gemlux gives a discount to THT members.  It is somewhere around 30-35%.  Not too shabby.  I have stockpiled a lot of their hardware for my rebuild.  In fact, quite a bit more than I'm actually going to use.  I may have to have my own clearance sale once my rebuild is done.

Thanks, buddy! Was fun to unwrap, for sure. Most all was clearance, except for the friction hinges. Those puppies were a little pricey, but if they can do what they promise, then I'll say they're worth it.
