1999 yamaha pro-v 200
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:50:15 PM »
Just picked up this yamaha pro v 200 for my 222. it is a 99. dont know much about these motors. wanted to get some feedback on the motor whether they are good or not. got it for 400$ compression is about 115 across all 6 cylinders. tilt and trim work great. previous owner said the motor was on a boat running 2 months ago and has been on a stand in his garage since then. according to him the motor should fire up and run.

Well for $400 you can't go wrong even if it was a parts motor. Is it carb'd or fuel injected? Post a pic if you can. Assuming its not ate up with corrosion go through the fuel system, cooling system, gear lube, grease it and go. Is it the right shaft length? 20" or 25". With a couple of exceptions all engines are good if they were serviced and cared for during their lives. Basically, the Yamaha V6 was a durable and reliable engine if they are not corroded internally as some early models had exhaust tuner issues and shift shaft corrosion issues.

it is carbuerated. and it is a short shaft 20 inch right hand turn. im going to rip into this week. had planned on changing all the fluids, plugs if needed, clean the carbs and hopefully get it going. motor is pretty clean under the cowling

I would love a pair of 200's on my Osprey.
I hope the motor works out for you
