Johnson Javelin 100 gas consumption
« on: February 21, 2013, 11:46:02 PM »
I have a Javelin 100. Two questions
What can I do to make it easier to start? When shes cold she cranks and cranks and cranks forever before firing over.
Also, what kind of gas consumption would be normal? I covered 17 miles last weekend. I did a few WOT runs, and a few miles of idleing and the rest about 60% throttle. Used 6.3 gallons. Is that about right?  2.7 MPG...?!?!!

Your engine appears to be '82 vintage which means she uses a primer enrichener valve. It's a small black solenoid with a red lever adjacent to the carburators. Are you pushing in on the key while cranking the engine? This activates the primer circuit and allows a shot of fuel into the intake plenum to help start a cold engine. With the cowling off, turn the key switch to on position and push in on the key and see if your hear the primer clicking. That indicates the little solenoid inside is working. Do this test and report back. I'm also assuming you are squeezing the fuel line primer bulb to fill the carbs prior to trying to cold start. Your fuel consumption is normal for a V4.
