Grey Johnson
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:31:12 AM »
Hi everybody,
I have a 1999 215 Explorer with a 150 Johnson. The factory color of the Johnson is a grey metallic.
Does this signify any difference from other colors? One relative told me he thinks this means it is a
commercial model with a heavier gear case with different ratios so it could swing a different prop,
but I am not so sure. Reason I ask is I need a new lower unit and I want to make sure I get the right one.

Also, I can't afford a new unit, so does anybody know of a good used one available?
Thanks,
Charlie

OK, I'll guess.

No.

I've seen quite a few Aquas powered with that color Johnson (calm down pervs) so I'd say that the factory changed the color for marketing. I would think that the commercial models would be labeled as such.

Again,

Just a guess.

Gray was just a color OMC used in that timeframe...maybe to differentiate from Evinrude...

All the 99 model Aquasports that I looked at had grey Johnsons on them and all of them were faded really bad.  Maybe they did that like bob said to differentiate them from the Evinrudes which I think was the first year for the Ficht?

1987 170 w/ Evinrude 90
