Pulling a tube with 175?
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:44:38 PM »
Planning to take the kids tubing this summer behind my 175.  Does anyone have experience with this?  Can I just attach to the transom tie-down rings?  Kids are just 7 and 8 years old so they don't weigh much and it's just a one-person tube.  Will it work ok?   How about pulling adults?  Thanks

Yep and yep.  Adults are fine.  Stern rings is the way to go, better off with a pulley that ties to both rings.  Unless you have really low HP.  Assuming you have somewhere between 90-115..

You'll be fine using the stern eyes... :thumleft:  :thumleft:

yup stern eyes are strong enough to lift the boat... so no problem towing...  As already mentioned get one of the harnesses with a pulley that allows the rope to self center like this one:  http://www.iboats.com/12-Rope-Tow-Demon-Harness-Airhead/dm/cart_id.030571094--session_id.608871916--view_id.237609  You may need switch to a lower pitch prop to help with the hole shot.  Some states require a rear view mirror or a spotter for pulling a skier.

Thanks all - not worried about the 115 having enough power... was more concerned that the rings are maybe not strong enough.
Thanks for giving me the peace of mind to go for it!
