Through hull or Seacock
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:15:44 PM »
I want to put a raw water wash down pump on my boat. What's the better way to go?where should I mount this?Through the transom? Through the floor? Should I use a through hull or sea cock type fitting?

Both, install the thru hull thru the bottom of the boat then the seacock on top of the thru hull.

Double ditto...

Through the hull bottom, simple bronze mushroom head t/hull, standard threads.  If you think you might plumb it to a livewell, go with a scoop strainer t/hull...

Either way, install a strainer inline before the pump to keep the grass out of the pump...

Place it offset from the prop/lower unit. You don't want it disturbing the water flow to the prop or water intake on the lower unit.  Also, place it where it is easily accessible in the event you are taking on water and you need to shut the seacock.

Replaced mine last summer.

offset about a foot give or take a few inches from center of keel

Easy access thru hatch at stern.
