Breaking the ice.
« on: January 13, 2013, 07:49:38 PM »
I headed out Saturday morn for a day of fishing.
Weather forecast called for overnight lows in the 20s.
Told my fishing bud on Friday night I had set my threshold for going in the morn at 22 degrees, and to planning on going unless I called him by 5:30 am to cancel.
I check the temp at 4:00 am Sat. morn. 25 degrees..... perfect....we are going
It's about a half hour drive to the launch from my house, on the way there I noticed temp was dropping, got down to 22 on the truck  mirror, told buddy I was going to turn for home if it got down to 21.
Well the temp never dropped past 22 so we ended up launching

Yeeep...... that be ice, nothing like the sound of breaking ice on your hull.

Except for the temp and the N.E. wind gusting to 20, it was a beautiful day

Catching was good...... :D
no fish pictures this time guys.... :(
fingers were too damn cold to press the button on the camera.

What a guy won't go through to put fresh fish on the table  :pirat:

Amen to that!  But then, we down here that have gotten our blood thinned by the wonderful Florida winters, well...we'll pick our days!  This morn, about 10:30, out at Bayport?  A beautiful 75 degrees...

Got up to about 83 this afternoon, Maggie had me turn the AC on...no chit!

83.....
At 10:30 this morn I was still trying to thaw out the garden hose to wash the boat and fillet fish....
Had the boat in the shop Sat night with furnace set at 60,pulled the boat out of shop around 11 for a wash.
By the time I got done washing the old girl and flushing the engines...maybe 45 minutes at most....water on and in the boat had turned to ice  :|
Damn near did the splits stepping on the trailer fender getting out of the boat

But you know what..........
Because I have lived here my whole life and don't know any better.......
I luv it.

I guess it's like choices in women.  There is something for everyone.
Yesterday morning it was 68 at daylight and I was sitting on the back porch in shorts and a tshirt drinking my coffee and watching the sun come up .  This morning it was 48 and with long pants and a hoodie I was freezing.

My son in law is like you Bill.  He lived in northern WI most of his life.  I will have on long pants and a jacket and he is wearing shorts and tshirt and sweating.  I could do that in my younger days but I'm too old now.

I'm glad to hear someone is catching.   :thumright:

Oh well..    water temp was 65, not knumbing cold, but a pretty good shocker  so I have done my polar bear dip (Florida style) No way up there Bill....
