Aquasport Exporer Live Well Pump (Not Bilge Pump)
« on: November 24, 2012, 09:24:28 PM »
I have two pumps one is an auto pump the other is a 220 Gulper. The gulper is dead so I am going to replace it ... One hose goes to the starboard gun wall. Does anyone know where the other one goes?

If you can send picks of the bilge area that would be cool too.

Thanks,
-Melo

What model Explorer do you have?   Is this a bilge pump or is it a washdown or livewell pump?

That's a shower drain/waste water pump.
WT is correct.  It's a diaphragm type
Google Gulper 220 for details.

I have a 215. The pump is viewed the the back hole on the floor.  The pump is frozen and the location is a factory location because it connects to a switch on the main panelling. I will have more information later once I do the replacement.

A Gulper is most often used as a fish box pump out, it doesn't macerate but it can pump solids (read that poop, also a good overboard discharge pump for a holding tank).  If you have a porta-potti in the cabin with an overboard discharge option, that's what it COULD be.  But, it may also be for the fishbox...

This pump is connected to the front bilge pump switch. I believe it is used for the cubby ... Does anyone know how the hoses get connected?

OK,
Based on what we know, let's see if we can eliminate some things and figure out what you really have.
First, do you have one thru hull for drainage in the right (starboard) stern (where you stated one hose was hooked up) and two thru hulls on the left (port) stern and one each thru hull located about amidships just above the waterline on both sides?

The stern ones I would guess would be for bilge pump and fish box drainage with the forward ones on each side for drainage of the live well (starboard) and the cooler (port). These two forward drains are gravity fed.

I do not see a bow discharge thru hull in the photos from the 1997 catalog so:
Do you have an access plate in the cabin that when removed would expose a bow bilge pump? If not, you may not have a forward bilge pump just a switch labeled such and used for other purposes. That's a good SB question but as always, pics help.

Your self contained head is just that but who knows (as SB stated) maybe the PO installed one but I'd be surprised if that's the case. Still, pics always help.

You have a live well so you need a raw water supply. You may have the optional wash down (again pics) but in any case, you need some sort of pump to feed the well. The one you show could be used for some sort of drainage pump for the forward bilge since it might be able to pull the water from some hidden drain forward  but I'm still fuzzy on your original post.

Do you see one of the hoses (in the picture) connected to the starboard thru hull?
Do you see anything hooked to the raw water pick up (pump on top of valve)?

That is the fish well pump. Intake side goes to a tee fitting that connects the two wells. Discharge side goes out. Before you change it did you check the wiring? When mine died it turned out to be the wiring. I re-wired it and it worked fine untill the dresser coupling on the pump split. I still have the motor in case I ever need one.

After replacing this pump I discovered that it is the livewell pump not the aft bilge pump as I thought.

... Now, I have a switch for the AFT Bilge Pump but don't know where it goes or where it dumps from ... anyone know?

I see that on port side there are three holes, once is the cooler middle, the bottom rear is the livewell and the top rear is the bilge. On the starboard side I have one ontop but I do not know where that goes?

This is a 215 Explorer.
