Trailers / Re: Single Axle« Last post by dbiscayne on September 17, 2025, 11:53:37 AM »Seems like way too much weight on the tongue, thought that tongue weight was supposed to be around 10%??? But I'm no expert. I had a short trailer under a long boat that was as far forward as it could go and gave me too much tongue weight, it would wag pretty bad over 45mph.

Trailers / Re: Single Axle« Last post by Voodoodb on September 16, 2025, 07:50:30 PM »Just weighed at truck scales. Loaded and half tank gas is 3440 lbs. Running 5 bolt spindles and 14” tires. Springs appear to be larger. 4 leafs and 3/8” thick each. Looking at trailer part sites they are the same as 4200lb springs. Have looked all over axle and no lettering or anything to tell its size. Nor does trailer frame have anything.

Flatback 22-2 Rebuilds / Re: 1970 Flatback 222 - Barn find Revival« Last post by Ulysses485 on September 15, 2025, 12:39:44 PM »Filled the stern side of the outboard stringers with foam back in mid August sanded down. I decided to take advantage of the nicer weather this past weekend and get all the hull side coring capped with a layer of 1708. While I was there I decided to add a layer of 1808 in between the outer stringers kind of "down in the valley" where the resin wanted to migrate to anyhow.
Even though this is only 1/4'' Divinycell coring, I am extremely impressed with how rigid it is now. Pushing up on the bow and there is very little flex. I did one side each night this weekend with each side taking approximately 2.5gallons of polyester resin and one (1) 30'' x 21ft long piece of 1708. I was very happy with how smooth it went, all in 40oz batches. I guess I need a fuel tank sooner than later to go in the empty pocket so I can get a deck installed!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 70
Trailers / Re: Single Axle« Last post by Ulysses485 on September 15, 2025, 12:01:11 PM »A typical 5 lug axle is rated for 2k,3k, or 3.5k. What size tires are you running on there? Boat hull has a weight of about 2300lbs dry. Add motor (500lbs), fluids (500lbs), gear (150lbs), etc. and you are right there on the heels of a single axle trailer. You will benefit greatly from a tandem trailer with torsion axles with brake system on one axle. Hope that helps.
