Aquasport Discussion / Looking at purchasing 1986 222 Osprey
« Last post by nmastrilli on January 16, 2026, 11:49:25 AM »
Hello everyone,

I have been looking into purchasing this 1986 222 Osprey
This is the facebook listing link
https://www.facebook.com/share/1QGGSG75Xc/?mibextid=wwXIfr

This is a breakdown of everything it has that was given to me by a friend.

-222 hulls are very sought after can be anywhere from 5-10 k depending on condition have seen some for sale for 7k needing full restore
2023 200 Suzuki w/ 100 hours-11k
Trolling motor 2-3k
Porta bracket 3-5 k
10 ft p pole 1500$
Trailer 3-5k
Trim tab and controls 800$
Suzuki gauge 700$
5-6k to replace transom/enclose
Tilt helm 900$
Garmin 500+ $
Keyword system 500-2000k depending on power
Paint 3-5k
Minimum 2k in butt connectors wires miscellaneous rigging items
Estimate cost of parts (new) 38,000$

The boat still has the original stringers, was repainted by a shop in Clearwater and had some minor cosmetic fiberglass work done to it in early 2000s. It also had the transom enclosed at some point I imagine before van wagoner did work on it. What are everyone's thoughts about the longevity of the original stringers and glasswork and a realistic value of this boat? I told seller Id be willing to offer something in the 35k range or less.
Thanks

Guides as shown above work good, and if the bunks are setup right, and you don't back the trailer in too deep, the bunks will keep the front of the boat centered. I like having bunks as far forward as possible.

I forgot to post on this and thought it might be useful for builds using hull side coring....

The upper 2 inches of the hull sides (rub rail area) needed to be thickened due to the 3/8'' coring protruding past and the need of something for the cap to screw to (I have decided to ditch the original liner) so I used some core mat I had laying around cut in 2'' strips. I used 2 layers capped with a layer of 1708. I used a drape cloth over the 3/8'' coring to protect/prevent resin spilling all over the coring.

Really Happy with how it turned out!

Thanks gents. The trailer is the same one Rick. The two bunks are the whole enchilada, Rick. I'm thinking another set of bunks and guide poles would do it.

I agree with the poles but they are usually just to guide you. What do you have to keep the front of the hull from drifting port or starboard when pulling up on the trailer? Are there rollers?

Is this the same trailer?

Got her back. Question for all. Trailer fenders are in bad shape and look as if they WANT to scratch my new paint job. I'm thinking trailer guides. Any suggestions, like "a single pole with a pvc tube over it is better than a rail". I'm leaning towards the single pole attached with ubolts. All the boats I regularly trailer are aluminum and commercial grade so scratching them was never a concern.

Other boat with donor motor (115 yamaha 4stroke) at the shop having motor checked out.
