Tonight I worked on the tank cover
So to recap I used Seacast transom material as the core. Love the stuff but it is lumpy. So I lightly sanded with 80 grit to knock down the real obnoxious points and smeared west systems 404/vinylester peanut butter over it with a spreader and laid 1.5 oz chopped stand over it. In this photo you can see all the dark patches are the thicker build up of peanut butter filling in all the lows.

In this photo you can see in the glare of the light that it ends up being pretty damn smooth. I think 2-3 more layers of 1708 and it is going to be a bulletproof tank over. Sometimes you have to get a little innovative. In this case I think it’s going to be really good.

Went with the angle fiberglass. Looks like it will work. Little bit of grinding to do.
Clamped

Filled gap with thickened resin and put a layer of matte over the joints

Here is "angle fiberglass". Will cut it down to appropriate length and width to cover exposed comb

Exposed comb with thickened resin

Rebuilt my transom in last 18 months. Here are some hard costs.
* two sheets of 3/4 Coosa $309 a sheet 4 x 8 so $620ish
* 5 gallon bucket od polyester resin and 8oz of mek $220
* roll of 1708 25 inch wide and many yards long. They sell by the pound 110 lbs for $240 (cant remember this one but think i am in the ball park)
* some amount of matte say $75
*paint brushes, acetone, roller, bubble buster, plastic, other stuff probably $150

$1200ish total material

It's not cheap but it's a whole lot cheaper Than A new boat and, if you do the work, you will know exactly what you have.  Besides it's strangely addictive and satisfying.

Thank you for taking the trouble to itemize all that.  That helps me see how valuable the labor is as well.  I am definitely not up for such a project.  This is my first boat, and I just want to get it on the water very quickly.  But I have visions of a bigger yard where I could have a boat or two that I could work on in my spare time.  I can easily see that becoming an addictive hobby.  There are so many tantalizing hulls available all over the place for low cost, that seem like some kind of short cut or cheat code to fix up instead of buying a new boat.  lol

If the 25" motor you have is good and you plan on keeping it, then rebuild the transom to match the engine. Keeps the power head higher away from the water too.

That is the plan.  I did not understand the thinking, but now, I see you are thinking the same way.  The man who is rebuilding the transom, proposed to make it a flat back, and he also said the motor was at the wrong depth, so this will address both things, and make it less likely for water to come over the transom.  Thank you for helping me understand it better.

Man that poly got expensive. I remember getting my 1708 50" wide. It was maybe half that price, but its been a few years.

That space up front wasn't originally a live well, you've got a Diver model with the viewing windows and somebody has modified some holes through the hull to use it as a livewell. No clue how to polish those up they look pretty far gone.
Do you also have the folding bench outside the boat on the side?
