Title: 57 DMR
Post by: dirtwheelsfl on October 27, 2012, 06:42:49 PM: Friend of mines rig my dad and I redid. 1975 57' DMR built in Maine, Original 671 Detroits. Not sure what DMR stands for but we say "didnt make it right". We grounded on a coral shelf in the Bahamas for a night and the plan was to just do a flybridge, then the can of worms opened up.

original rotted roof. 2 layers of 3/4 ply nailed together and glassed over. 7000# of crap! waterline came up 2" when this came off.

new 2" nidacore roof. 30' x 15'. layed it up in the garage! ALL EPOXY.

front panels of bridge are nida, sides are divinycell. roof is 1.5" nida. We estimated the weight of the big roof and bridge to about 1000#

The build work...that's what I look at. The top, the custom settees. Well thought out, good engineering, great execution.

Great thinking, good work.

It is true I'm sweeping the different forums in order to grow this one and I was consulted on its birth and title but the genesis was strictly Fearless Leader's. Another point to be made is that as I go through this process, I'm finding threads dealing with engines, props, trailers etc. Not really surprising as the "same" topics/questions always seem to come around. These finds are then moved to the more appropriate forum. Hopefully this will aid members in the future.

This thing is an absolute tank! Ruined almost every boat in the marina back in one of those 04 or 05 hurricanes. It was a lobster boat originally we believe, turned into a treasure boat, then was a ferry in the bahamas. Bought off ebay actually after the hurricanes for about 1/10th the price of a new yellowfin...she will pitch pretty good in a beam sea, 10 knot top speed
