This is a long term goal and I am seeking all opinions. I love my 1974 19-6. I will refinish it this winter or next. It will need a new floor, tank and gunnel work by then along with hull fairing, etc before paint. My question is how to go about it and what to use? My wife does art restoration for a living but can also run a spray gun like nobodies business so sprayables are not out of the question. Can i just repaint below the waterline or does it need gel or bottom paint? Boat will be slipped 400yrds below a damn in brackish waters 4 miles from the ocean.

is the bottom currently painted? If it is currently painted with ablative paint and you have it media blasted, you will need to add a barrier coat.
If your plan on painting the bottom with a finish like the hull sides, I believe you should be fine. However, that is a lot of work for something you are going to cover with bottom paint anyway.

It currently has bottom paint, that is missing in both places along with some glass work that needs to be done. Just wondering if I should sand it all down, patch what needs patching then just bottom paint? There is not much left, enough to tell it has some.

Any other input?
