Title: Barrier coat questions, Interprotect?
Post by: Fletch170 on July 23, 2012, 11:19:20 AM
Hey guys, got the boat blasted, but I need to put a barrier coat down before I prime and paint the bottom. I was looking to use interlux's "Interprotect" barrier coat product. Has anyone had any luck with this? Anything else you would reccomend?

Hey Fletch,

What are you going to paint the bottom with? I used Interlux VC. It comes out with not much sheen but with wet sanding and buffing it will look very good.

I'm painting the bottom with.....ellllllcheapo west marine copper based paint?? She's going to live in the water half of the year. I was thinking of just rolling resin, then using sandless primer, the bottom paint? Is that just stupid?

Is it an ablative paint? I think that is the best type so it washes off a little at a time taking the barnacles and scum with it.  A "Hard" non-ablative paint seems to be harder to keep clean.
I have Petit Vivid white ablative on my 230.  It lives on a trailer though.
My $.02
