Title: Replacing fenders
Post by: daniel123 on June 14, 2012, 06:44:40 PM
My 200 Osprey came on a nice Continental aluminum trailer, nice but for one fender, which took a hit hard enough to split it. The former owner said it might have been caused by a (darn violent) blow-out. Anyway, I need to fix or replace it. Any ideas or advice welcome; photo below.

Without seeing said pic, those are the molded plastic ones, correct?  With the little step pads on each end of the fender?

Where you located?  those fenders are a standard part that you should be able to find locally.

Yep.  Sturdybuilt in Bradenton carries just about any fender one could imagine in single, dual, and triple.  Plastic, galvanized, stainless, aluminum, and painted.

There's a SturdyBuilt in Sarasota too, about 3/4 mile south of Bee Ridge on 41 - west side.

Sorry I wasn't monitoring this link like I should have; I didn't expect so much quick help! The fenders are aluminum diamond plate. I'll contact Continental and then look locally here in Columbus, Ohio. The tires are standard 25 inch, I believe.

Just off the phone with Continental (Based on the catalog link you sent, I need one model 53 F1315 RA aluminum diamond plate fender: $42.50) and they don't sell retail (so that price is wholesale?) or have dealers outside of FLA!

I replaced my galvanized ones on my old CCP trailer with Diamond Plate. Generic stuff I got at the local trailer repair shop but you may find it on line.

Here's a start.

Thanks, Bob, but I need aluminum to match the good one and I have the feeling I may not be as handy at fabricating as thee....

Are there boat trailer "pick and pull" graveyards out there?

Dan

I thought these were aluminum.

I replaced my galvs. with alum. and the replacements were that diamond plate design. Just need to measure your old and search.

Good luck.

I thought I saw a few different fenders available at Sturdybuilt.  Did you check their website?

When I explained the situation and that there are no dealers anywhere near me, Continental offered to send me the fender I need! Nice folks...

I almost had a violent blow out on my 98 175 with a continental trailer. The galvanized arxle rotted from gtthe inside out and the axle broke at the wheel. Was going slow so I faired ok. However at highway speed would have been an issue. It looked great on the outside. Beware salt water boaters!
