Hanging a CMC Jackplate on my 175
Have had Bob's before, but got a good deal on this.
When you wire it it needs 2 relays somehow
Trying to get schmetic from factory & they want to sell me a $120 harness.
Anyone have any clues?
I know it ain't that hard

HF, you're right, it needs two relays, obviously up and down. You should have a main power feed coming off the batt switch or batt that feeds the relays, then the leads from the switch, red, green, and blue, that go to the relays.
T-H Marine bought CMC (Cooks), you may want to give them a call...or is that who you already talked to?

That's a bunch of BS if they don't give up the goods. Tell them you ditching the plate and installing a Bob's...never hurts to put a little "pressure" on them... :wink:

Next CMC Jackplate Issue
Wire up the relays per JJ's supplied Schematic
Everything click on-off/Up-Down but no cylinder movement
Had 12v at all the right places etc
Checked owner's manual went over all there trouble shoot probs etc.
Finally at end they say if unit fails to work replace actuator unit?
Their unit is all enclosed on the jack plate,unlike the Bob's where the pump is mounted separate.
Popped the top of the unit & one of the 2 electrical brushes with the spring that holds it in was broke.
The brush is no biggie but the spring/retainer is kinda Funky.
Called CMC this afternoon they were closed today.
anyone had issues with these & know if they sell parts only?
I talked with them early in week & seemed not to keen on giving up info.

Had an old CMC on an old mid 80's Key West that I worked on, basically the same thing...
Given the condition, told the owner to think about Bob's...no, not me...

Never messed with CMCs but if you can't get the brush holder and new brushes from them, find a shop that specializes in rebuilding automobile starters and alternators.

If you can get rough dimensions of the brush, you can do an online search for 12v electirc motor brushes and most likely find what you need. That's how I get the ones the local boys don't have and most times cheaper..
I am assuming CMC uses someone else's motor and puts their paint one it. You may find a data tag with mfg name and part number, that would be a bonus!
If all else fails, if there is enough of the wire pigtail left you can try to open the end connector with an awl and re crimp the pigtail. Not the best fix but works if no other option and a really good way to put the awl through your finger..

The little black square relays are the exact same blinker relays from Ford motor vehicles. Go to the u-pull-it and load up for $2 a piece cause there ain't a damn "marine" thing about the TH relays that is different than the Bosch ones on Fords.

I would just start get a battery mess with the wires and see what happens ;)
What are the colors on the wires? General colors for trim and tilt are blue and green. That's what was on my jackplate.

Update-CMC will not sell the carbon brushes alone,At first they wanted to sell me the whole actuator unit for $400 bucks, after going back & forth with them they finally said they would sell me the Black plastic cover cap that holds the brushes etc as a whole unit fro 80$, with no warranty cause it's a pain in the _ss to install & I guess alot of people screw them up. I still had issues with that ,Havin worked on industrial motors quite abit I new what was needed, so went to my favorite Ace HW, Found the right size brushes_(Next to their SS HW selection) fabbed up a new spring retainer on the existing black cover-Put in on (Carefully) & it works!!!-Not impressed with CMC but got a deal on it(so I thought)

Wired the same as Most Tilt & Trim relays
Must use a 5 Pin 40-50 amp relay- with 1-no/-1nc contacts
I don't know how -but I ended up with 4 pin the first time(Thru me for a loop)
We to NAPA a few times & without a parts# they didn't have a clue & wanted to sell me a $17.00 gimmick when i knew it was a $4 part
Do not think its the same as a flasher-(Higher amps)
Found a kit on ebay with 2 relays & plugs for 10bucks
