Title: Hull Ventilation how's yours done?

On my boat, a '73 22.2 there's two 3" clamshell type vents that have dryer vent hoses into the bilge on my bow foredeck.  There's also an exhaust close to the transom under the rubrail.  Most 22.2's I've seen have the aft exauhst, but I think I've only ever seen one other boat with the bow vents.  Does anyone else have this configuration?

My 1976 222 has both the forward and aft vents.

I can't wait to pull the floor off to see what's accumulated in them over the last 30 years. As a child I remember dropping many a toy down the forward vents! That being said, I'm not sure how effective they are in ventilating the hull (particularly if clogged by several hot wheel cars!) :wink:

I'm not looking forward to that whole deck ripping thing, although it's coming up for me.  It wouldn't take too many hotweels cars to clog those vent hoses.   Of course with some of that great salt air, you can bet they turned to poweder pretty quick.  

I'm sort of thinking about plugging those vents when I clean the bow off.  I saw another 22.2 ('76 I think) in the Keys at a fuel dock this month that had a pop-up cleat and, bow light with no bow rail.  It looked really sleek without a bunch of crap on the bow.  I'll also need to figure out a solution for the anchor.

If it was up to me, I would plug them.  I really don't see the need, and they take up space/get in the way on the front deck.  While ventilation is probably good, under the deck, I think I would be more concerned if there was an inboard under there, which they did, at one time, make.

I pulled mine out when working on some rot and installing pull up cleat in the foredeck.  Can't beleive they did much anyway.

i had two on the bow and two aft but mine was an inboard.when i tore the boat apart the two ducts from the front vents just lead and end under the floor right in front of the gas tank cavity.

Mine has the clamshells on the front but the hoses are long gone and the exit is at the back with some louvers.  We just use the back vent to exit the bilge hose.  I am not sure that the fronts still serve any purpose beyond letting water into the bilge.
