Title: speedometer and tachometer issues
Post by: foreverstrung on April 27, 2012, 10:03:06 PM
I don't have the speedometer and tachometer connected on my boat. Not sure why pops had them disconnected. I'm sure he bought it that way back in'08. If I want to get these dialed in, where would ya'll suggest I start from. I'm going to look through the wiring schematics as well as anything else I feel might be relevant. But I can't even begin to try to hook them up until I know what to look f0r.
Appreciate it

Off your engine harness you have a group of short "pig tail" wires.  Purple, black, gray, brown/w/ white stripe, and tan/w/blue stripe.  Purple is ignition feed, black is ground, GRAY is tach sender feed.  Want your tach to work?  Terminate gray to the "S" position on your tach, purple to the "I" position, black to the "G" position.

The speedo needs no power, just hot and ground (blue and black) to provide backlighting...

Thanks Bob. but that's the electric to the speedometer. Does it have a speedometer cable similar to a car? And if so, I would imagine it is bunched with the cable and hose harness. I found nothing on this in looking through the manual last night.
Tach is A+ though, thanks

You should have a 1/4" I.D. hose somewhere in your harnessing, attaches to the little barb/nipple on the back side of the speedo.  It's called a pitot tube...
