New transom, 1989 120 johnson new to me, new stiletto proppeller, new bobs machine jackplate, new lenco trim tabs, oil tank, fuel lines, cables, controls, and nfb 4.2 steering. It runs and I really can't wait to water test it :shock:
I still have to mount the switch for the tabs and linc and sync the motor
I've been a little busy since she was winterized last november.

That's one nice set-up!
If you think of it, when you get in the water make a couple of notes regarding RPM and speed. My guess is around 38-40 mph @ WOT.

Thanks so much Yes, :o I did all the work. I will be posting on the wot and speed so others can use this in determining power and setup. I am hoping for 42 to 44 but I can live with 38 to 40 as long as it is efficient. I only could get 2.5 to 3 mpg with the 83 crossflow 150 I had on this last year. I would like to see 3.5 to 4. I think the jackplate and prop should help with the setup as well as the tabs. Hope they can smooth out the ride in chop a little.
I will post as soon as I get it in the water as it is going to be a little cold this week.

5600 rpm 38.5mph 13gph 30 psi water press
The motor is way to low av plate is under water at wot evidenced by spray and able to trim full and rooster tail with no loss of bite :D
Jim you were right on
But it has more as I can raise the motor alot and gain some rpm and effeciency I still feel 42 to 44 is the max on this setup and will make me very happy

First time I've been right about anything so far this week.
Careful raising the motor too much... can cause squirrelly steering if you overdo it.

She is way low only 2 inches above keel with av plate on 5 inch setback plate. It will go probably 2 more inches before it starts to make it handle funny. I can trim it all the way up and not lose bite in a sharp turn.
I had the v6 this high with no setback.
You are right if someone does not know what to expect when you are too high the will be in for a wild ride!!!!! :P

My 170 with a mariner 115 only does about 38mph. I don´t think you´ll be able tpo break 40, but I hope I´m wrong. Great work on the boat!!!!

Raised motor 3/4 inch tested to day but put another 12gallons fuel in it
39.8 MPH AT 5600 30 PSI water press
It will still take some trim but starts to lose bite with too much. It is approaching the optimium height. Maybe 1/4 to 3/8 more is all I'll get

Jim you nailed it 40 is the top I think. Pretty maxed out.
I am trying a turbo 18 lighting jr soon from a friend should be a good comparision to the stiletto 17.
She was almost at 40 but I was coming to a no wake and had to back down :shock:
I really need the stripers to arrive cause I have too much time to mess with the setup now and when they get here I will be fine with 30mph and 3.5mpg. I never really run it wot anyway. But until the fishing gets going I will have some fun :P 8)

Watch your RPM's with that other prop. The higher pitch may seriously compromise engine (RPM) performance when the boat is loaded up with fishing buddies, tackle, bait, beer, ice and God knows what else. Running light, as you are now, isn't representative of the mission weight. Also, 40 MPH in a small boat is of no value ocean fishing. At that speed in any sort of chop you'll have bleeding kidneys & herniated disc's. Plus that, the beer will be all shook up. Beer everywhere when you pop the can.

Jim you are right I only cruise at 25 to 30 when in the ocean but when it gets rough usually come home at 20. I am not going to use the turbo I am just going to try it. I am going to stick with the stiletto and I have an alumnium 13 1/4 x 15 backup to run if needed.
I hope the trim tabs help the ride a bit as the dentist got rich last year replacing the fillings I lost :lol:
I can't wait to get my next project a 200 ccp I bought for 500 that needs a transom. 20 degree deadrise will smooth things out quite a bit. I will not be getting her home till may as the owner is in floridia til then. I will try to rebuild that one then sell this one to repower the 200

Talk to Miguel about the tabs... they help out a lot keeping the bow down cutting through chop. Makes it a different boat.

On the smoother days, a judicious amount of trim tabs actually gives me a couple of more MPH, a couple of hundred more RPM, and a corresponding drop in fuel GPH if I drop the RPM back to the original setting. I guess getting the back end up is less friction than the tabs cause. Too much tab, like bow down for a better ride, does create more drag.

Had her out today and all I can say is man what a difference. Wind was southwest and swell was south bout 2 to 4. A little tab and no more pounding. I mean it use to rattle you teeth now just when you think it would pound the bow goes over the wave and hits first not the hull under your feet. Just cuts right through. :shock:
I will never own a boat without trim tabs again.
I was also able to cruise at 32 mph at 4200 rpm only burning 8.7 gph. A little tab did not hurt the rpm or the gph.

Took it out today tried a turbo lighting jr 18 pitch from a friend.
41 mph at 5400
Can run this one alot higher as it now can be trimmed up higher and not lose bite.
Really a great prop for this hull and a jackplate. Great handling all around. It cruises at 4200 and 33 mph and has good response to throttle and trim.
Can't wait to raise and retest.
Getting closer to the 44 I was shooting for 8)
