Title: Stringer rebuild question..
Post by: gman 82 aquasport on February 01, 2012, 02:14:25 PM
Redoing the stringers on a 82 19-6 center console..I have already cut out the wet foam and refoamed the stringers. My question is this , how many layers of 17oz glass do I need to go over the tops of the stringers to reattach them.I cut the tops off and they are back on top of the new foam. I will be adding a layer of ply on top of the reglassed tops to raise the height a little more  to get it closer to the floor bottom and it will be glassed also. Just trying not to put to much or not enough..Thanks

I would think 2 layers. One that overlaps the edge by about 2 inches, then the second one about 4 inches. Bed the ply then lay another layer that laps over about 6 inches. Then put another one on that goes all the way down the sides of the stringer and laps out onto the hull bottom about 4 inches. If you go this route I would hate to be the guy that ever had to take it out!

took the words right out of my mouth!  i might add another layer tabbing into the hull bottom to the sides of the stringers, maybe 8" wide or so...
