I need to replace the battery in my 17.5' aqua sport. I trailer the boat so really don't use a bilge. Electronics on boat are a fish finder and live well. What type of battery would be best. Any specific make do you think would be best

First, you SHOULD have a bilge pump aboard, along with a float wired hot to the batt. I have a couple used Attwood Tsunami 1200s if your interested...
A good group 27 dual-purpose batt should do the trick. They have higher reserve capacity than group 24s. I'd stick with lead acid to keep costs down as opposed to AGMs...

You could spend days on THT reading all the BS about what's the best...some of those guys don't mind dropping upwards of $250 for an Optima Blue Top...
The rest of us? We live in the real world... :wink: :wink:

Ridiculously priced now but....
One is 9 years (2002) the other not quite 5 (2007). In those days they ran about $180 (group 27).
I'd say I got my money's worth. Still crankin' my 91 200, after service on the old CCP. Replaced them both in 2002 and had one fail in 07.
I'm not close to livin' in the real world. Haven't for years.

Capt Bob I've been using the Worst Marine, SeaVolt AGM batts for two years without a hicup, used your link and looked them up to see what they cost now :shock: :shock:

You would be fine with any size Dual Purpose lead-acid battery. Autozone carries a Duralast grp27 Marine for around $100. Seabob knows is chit, so go with the group 27 and you'll have no worries.

I used a Nautilus deep-cycle in my old full size Blazer, lasted for 7 years here in the FL heat. Still going strong when I broke a terminal...

The two key points made so eloquently here are....
1. Get a battery you are comfortable with price wise, mounting position and charge-ability. Mount it where it won't get beat all to hell, is easy to access for maintenance (if required) keep the connections clean, tight and properly sized (for minimum voltage drop) and above all, charge it correctly (and keep it charged) based on type.
2. That "what battery to use" threads are like any other opinion threads (think oil or gas additives).
Everyone's got one.

Get ya 1 lead-acid, 1 AGM and a gel.
Ought to be just about right for the 17.5
Bob's already got a wiring schematic done. May need a little tweeking but.....
