Where do I send "gas money" in return for some fruits of the harvest?

Tell you what. Wish had a fast helicopter, and could be Rick or Eddie.
Can't beat a man at his own game. If Scott says tomorrow is the morn boys...its time.
Best to the group...and Rick...know you don't get a chance to go much...so here's to you and Ed...burn 'em up
-
wow some lucky guys there... looks like it should be a nice weekend out there

Tear um up boys.

Standing by for SITREP.
Out.

Well we made it back, it was a little rough this morning and there was some rain around but we went for it, ended up 24 miles out, the bite was off and on with alot of small ones but my boat kept 9 Reds and we lost a few big ones.
My Dad had the fish of the day when the line broke about ten feet from the surface  but it happens.
Rick and Eddie kept 4 Reds and had to throw back a nice Gag (Out of season) while we were out Ricks trim on his motor decided to stop working so he couldn't take advantage of how the water laid down for us on the way in but we all had fun.
Rick should be chiming in later but for now a few picks, more to come later
Rick and Eddie in action.

This picture stinks, Maybe Rick has a better one but it's of a 215 Explorer, as big as the Gulf is and he has to stop and fish right next to us  We tried to be friendly but they wouldn't oblige us.

Cool. I did not know Rick knew how to fish in over 6' of water. ;)
-
Three generations on one boat! Excellent!
And here's the cool thing....you all look alike :thumright: :thumright:
Great day...

Its hard to believe with all those fish we never took a picture of me holding my fire truck.
-
What type of fire truck son?
-
One that eats sardines. :D

Usually I am in 6 or less - have to go deep once in a while.

I actually didn't take any pics of the 215 that showed up - it was weird and he fell right into our drift and started diggin' a few up.
As CH said, we came back with some nice reds - 4 and one of them we both caught at the same time, stupid fish grabbed both of our baits. Luckily we weren't fighting from opposite sides of the boat. That gag was like fighting a horse - he got in a hole initially but I let off and he made the mistake of coming back out - what a fight.
I didn't get any pics of Eddie and I fishing but did get these:

My engine trim ('91 Yamaha 250 D/P) worked fine to trim up the motor at the house and then trim it down at the ramp but only clicks now. So out and back with the total boat in the water - burned a lot of gas. I can't load the boat on the trailer and take it home because the motor skeg would be dragging on the road all the way home and would be missing by the time I got home :( . I took it next door to the boat club and left it in the water there.
Anyone know a way to jump across the trim and tilt relays on a Yammy - on my Johnson it's easy - yammy, nope. It would be nice to trim it up enough to get her home.

Rick
You should be able to follow the TTU wires up into the engine compartment, find the connector and disconnect it. Bring a couple jumper leads, I don't know if that year is 2 or 3 wires but if 2 wires, connect one clip to eng ground, and the other to your starterbattery wire, then touch them to the connector pins going too the TTU motor, if it goes "down" just reverse the connection. If the TTU motor is not shot, it will bring the motor up. Also, you have the release screw on the port side (I think) of the TTU, bring a large straight blade screwdriver, slip it into the access hole and turn CCW. You will have to be standing by the motor for this? Then 2 guys should be able to rotate the engine up and engage the trailer lock. Don't know if you can get it up the ramp at all with the motor down, does it have some room, or none at all?
-
Marc is right on both counts, if it's NOT the TNT motor. As far as the manual release, have 2 buddies on the LU, loosen the screw, then while they lift (far enough), tighten it back up real quick...
Been there, done that too many times!

Here is a link to another possibility. The clicking made me think of this thread. Relay? Maybe?

actually, since you hear a clicking, that means the relay is being energized, the "load" contacts in the relay could be bad, but doubtful. Being the 91 model year, unless it has been replaced, my bet is on the motor. Yami makes a great TTU unit, and good sealed motor, but all will succumb to the salt water eventually

Good info Marc - tough to get to the TT motor while it's in the water though. I'll go out in a few and start the troubleshooting process.
Without the engine tilted at all it's dragging on the road :(
The TT motor didn't sound too healthy the last couple times I've been out and it seemed that it needed fluid. If I can get it up a foot that'll be enough.

As I said in the last post, the motor does sound ill. If I can get a foot out of her....
I'll go armed with PB and some jumper cables and these instructions printed out.

Rick, this is the torch I was talking about. Much hotter than propane. No home shop should be without one!

To all you Grouper Diggers,
Thanks for the great reports and photos, I know you guys all had a good time - minus the engine trouble. You guys and the other
forum members are showing some excellent teamwork in getting the problem solved, and Rick, everybody is rooting for you. Hope it
turns out to be a fix that is 'easy-peasey lemon-squeezy'...
...as they say

Not a bad deal there, especially if it gets hotter than propane.

So here is the end result - went out today and troubleshot it - 12V where it should be, 12 and -12v on the relay when it triggers. Took the green and blue wires off and stuck them right on the + and - and nothing....
I would say that the trim motor is shot.
Then CH (Scott, Josh and Carter) arrived to help. Scott brought an inverted hitch to put in his truck which would lower the tongue and raise the motor so it wouldn't drag on the ground when we towed it out of the ramp - good idea  My hitch has a 1 foot positive addition to keep the trailer level and reduce tongue weight. The trailer is really not long enough for this boat but it is what came with the boat.
Well we backed the trailer in, drove the boat up on the trailer, winched her in the last few and when Scott started to drag her out the trailer framework started dragging on the ramp - it has a peak in it. So, we pondered on that and thought maybe about going to the ramp next door that is a gentle slope with no peak. Then Carter came up with this idea of using the trailer jack, with wheel, to relieve the tongue weight and Josh started cranking it up, the frame cleared, Scott drug her out slowly and we were good to go AND the motor didn't drag
Now, since the trim motor is toast we need to do the manual thing. While I was troubleshooting the motor I looked down the port side of the engine bracket, saw the hole and shot it a few times with PB, getting it "primed". When we started to look at the motor, we found that the manual hole was actually on the starboard side - I had looked there but didn't see it, must have been under the waterline.
So I shot it with PB, stuck a big flat tip into it seconds after and it broke loose with not much more than a strong grip. We were all amazed at that.
We (they) raised the motor (glad I just paid some bucks to get the pivot rod replaced, must of helped) as I manned the screw. They raised, I shut it back off and the motor lowered right back down :( Scott brought a 2x so they raised the motor again and we slid that in and bungee'd it so that if the motor bounced up the board came up with it - perfect.
We then swapped trucks and off to the house I went
Thanks for the tips, instructions THANK YOU SO MUCH "CH CLAN" for being there for me.
PS - sorry no pics.

Damn, didn't Dionne Warwick sing "That's what friends are for"? Alright, enough of the mushy stuff, you all know what I mean! Well done, Scott, Josh, Carter, and Rick...
So, now, on to a new TNT motor. I know there's an outfit up flounderpounder's way (panhandle) that has pretty good prices on Arco motors.
-
Rick thanks for all the praise but I, WE were happy to help and i know you would do the same for me :salut:
Now with my Dad an his knowledge of things i just need to get him to join up with us here.

A few more pics.
I see these fish, and I smell them. I miss the smell of fish.
I'm not sure if its the cooler weather, cooler water, or what - these fish out here on the Wrong Coast don't have a smell.
I can smell, in my memory from when I was a kid in the Keys, I can smell those blue runner, or what ever those smaller fish are.
I can smell pinfish, and barracudas have a real distinct smell too. I look at those grouper and smell Mangrove Snapper.
Its funny to mention it, but I kind of miss smelling the fish when you catch 'em. Thanks for sharing the photo's and
stirring up some smelly memories.
-
Well T, as they say...."the smeller's the feller."
-
Trace, you need to come back home! Yeah, it's changed...but it's still home!
-
I don't even like to have a 'cuda pulled into the boat because of the smell. It gags me.
I don't allow ladyfish in the boat unless I want them for bait. (projectile poop) They usually jump off anyway.
Anyone ever noticed the smell of menhaden? To me they smell like watermelon. I can tell if a school of menhaden is around when I start smelling watermelon a mile offshore. My tarpon fishing mentor pointed that out.
-
Trace, you need to come back home! Yeah, it's changed...but it's still home!
Dern, Bob....
You are on FIRE !!! Brother, I am chompin' at the bits, I am here to tell ya...
:compress: :shaking2: :compress: :bounce:

Scott
Great catch , that plate of fish look outstanding :thumright:
Only thing that bothers me is, both of us went fishing the same day...you guys are wearing tee shirts and sun glasses...I was wearing wool, rain gear, and carhart stocking hat.
I am jealous ,I mean really, we were only fishing a few thousand miles away from each other
Thanks for the post
Bill

Bill here's the best part. This ol' club of ours has reciprocal fishing privileges

Trace,
Sebastian for snook, Mosquito Lagoon for reds, a drive up the road to Oak Hill for some wintertime night shrimpin'...mouth watering yet?
-
Uhhhhhhhhhh.... that would be yes.
I think I will find some program that will find me the geographic center of Florida and that is where I will retire to.
Then it is the shortest possible trip to Sebastion for snook, Mesquito Lagoon for reds, Oak Hill for shrimpies.....
By the way, I mailed the MO today, so that flight is inbound....... :sunny:
-
you are never more than 75 miles from salt in FL so just pick a spot. ;)
