Lookie what followed me home today. It's a 1999 Sea Rayder jet boat... made by,,,, Sea Ray.. LOL This one is the model with the 175HP 2.5L Mercury V6 Inboard jet drive. Get this it only has 56 hours on the tach. I bought it from a friend of mine. It's been sitting for some time in her back yard. Unfortunately her sons dog chewed up the seat cushions but I can fix that. As you can see it looks much better after a quick cleaning. Now I just have to see if I can get it running.

Cool deal!
Like the ride, like the burn barrel, like the squirrel!
Excellent

Wing,
There was an article MANY years ago in Boating Magazine, one of the writers took a Sea Rayder up the Tennessee river for a big chunk of miles...pretty cool, wish I could find it. Probably about 12-13 years ago...

Bob you know the girl I bought the boat from... It's Stacey's

Lol thats not a squirrel! Its a fruit rat! The boat was parked under a citrus tree. On the way home my buddie was following me when a couple of rats bailed out of the back of the boat! Btw does anyone have a suggestion on how to clean off rat poop?
Here is a video of him :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtxAo-AIEnY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Made some progress on the jet boat. More cleaning and I removed all the seat cushions and bolsters. This was tricky since Sea Ray bolted them in BEFORE the cap was installed on the hull. I ended up cutting three 4" holes to gain access to the bolts. I'll install some pie plates and no one will be the wiser. Here's a few pics:

Notice the hidden HIN number that was under the captains seat back.

I went and bought a Harbor Freight variable speed polisher and a good wool bonnet. I wet sanded the faded gel coat on the jet boat with 600 & 800 grit paper then polished it with compound and wax. This is the results so far:

I know Stacey used John as a reference for a job recently and I heard they are only doing service, warranty and repair work there.
The Sea Rayder actually belonged to her ex husband (you know what happened to him right?) and her Son Josh.

Ahhh, old trucks are SOOOOO mechanical - brings back some memories although none that old.
So do you have the engine working or any progress besides some primer (since this is a "Not an Aquasport" thread - might as well continue) ?
BTW, very nice shop!!

Rick the engine is running but not starting consistently... Some times it starts with the starter button other times it starts by shorting the solenoid. I replaced the starter button so thats not it. I'm going to have to take a closer look at the wiring to look for a bad connection or something. I tested the start wires between the start button and the solenoid for resistance and there was almost none. So for now I know the boat runs so I can go ahead and move forward with getting the hull detailed up and reupholstering the seats. I ordered a sample card of the marine seat vinyl from my supplier to make sure I order the right color yellow.

Cool!!! Lake Tarpon, here she comes!!!
-
As Bob guessed I splashed the Rat boat in Lake Tarpon today! I had a hard time starting it at the ramp for some reason and we had some rain.. but I managed to get her started and we proceeded to tear up the lake. My Buddy Dennis brought his boat as a "chase Boat" At idle or low speeds the would load up or something so I had to bump the throttle now and then to keep her running. Was a tad hard to start to until I figured out the trick. I think she just needs an idle adjustment or something. Also I was getting a alarm that consisted of four beeps every two to three minutes. I think that is an oil level alarm. I checked the oil header tank and it was full to the top and she was definitely injecting oil. I was running some oil in the fuel since the boat has sat for so long... so it had almost double oil... We had fun doing a phot shoot of sorts. Videos and pics below!

Nope but backing up a trailer shorter than your truck takes quick reflexes! LOL
BTW the jet boat easily did over 50 MPH!
