Free bottles of Startron?  Did they all get scarfed up?  And the thread?

Lew called this morning and said to PM Bill for the offer. This was my morning off, went to get a haircut, run some errands...and this afternoon when I got in couldn't find where to post to

I guess there was a misunderstanding of what was to happen.  It was explained to me that there would be offers to be "beta" testers of new products to our membership and that the results would be PM'd to Bill at Starbrite.  I'm not sure what happened but it seemed to turn into something else.  There were private conversations and there was an agreement to delete the thread.
We don't have a problem with the members being offered new products to test as long as it's all above board with everyone going in with eyes open.
"Testing" an established product smells of something else and we're ok if it is something else as long as it's all laid out in advance. I'm not sure we were fully informed of what the real intent was before it took off.  Remember that one of the few rules we have here is that flagrant advertising is not allowed.

Bill if you want to talk to me about this feel free to PM me, Lewis, you too.  Let's get this all worked out.

BTW - your PMs are still in your outbox because Bill  hasn't read them yet.

I'm sure everyone "knows' what happened to Bill.

So there's no misunderstanding, the discussion with Lewis was long but simple. New products, not currently available to the public, used for testing research, would be made available to members for their opinions concerning same. All opinions would be shared through e-mails and NOT through the Forum. Bill's post would be placed in the Resource Forum and worded as above. This post would be edited, locked and hopefully pinned (a function not available to me). This was all discussed between Lewis and myself. Bill never contacted the "powers that be", posted in the Engine Forum and offered existing product.

I locked the post (as agreed between Lewis and I)
I moved the post to the Resource Forum (as Lewis and I agreed)
I edited the post to add that all correspondence was to be handled by PM not forum posting (as agreed by us)

I then PMed Bill explaining that unless this (Star Tron) was a new product, it was not what had been discussed with me.
Bill apologized and asked to have the post removed.
I did that too.

So while everyone is smellin', let's recap.

I'm contacted by a member asking my opinion about allowing another member to use the Forum as a third party testing group for products they may want to release in the future.
We both agreed that this would reside in the Resource Forum, be worded such that members requesting product would actually use it and return information either good or bad about same.
That I would edit the post, if needed, to reflect the above.
That the first member, would in fact contact the second member explaining the ground rules.
And that there would be no charge to the members for their input. "FREE STUFF" as it was explained to me.

This was the way it was put across to me. I agreed to same. There never was any mention of a "love offering" to get this ball rolling and if I misunderstood that well I'm not the only one. Scott seemed to have the same idea but I'm just guessin'. viewtopic.php?p=59500#p59500 (http://www.classicaquasport.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=59500#p59500)

This was circulating a day before the actual "testing" post so maybe Bill was confused to what Lewis had agreed for him to do concerning above.
I don't know because Bill never contacted Rick or me.

I made the mistake by not contacting the Admin and Owner of the Forum first before approval.
Won't happen again.

And if Bill is such a forthright guy, he'll understand and work this out.

Are you saying we gave our name and address to an un-forthright guy?

No there wasn't.  All I got was a fine Sounder with GPS and graphics as good or better than a current comparable Garmin.

Jipped again.  :x

I did a side by side comparison of six major brands of fuel treatment and coincidentally got my results yesterday after one year. Interesting stuff.

Webster defines "forthright" as: free from ambiguity or evasiveness: going straight to the point.

I use the adjective to describe my perception of Bill, based on this post:
viewtopic.php?p=53050#p53050 (http://www.classicaquasport.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=53050#p53050)

I did not let his disbelief of Elvis's leadership cloud my judgement.

The "un" originates from you.

I'd be happy to share the results but since it involves name brands I'm not sure how the admins would want to handle that.

It's a strange conundrum... seems we can talk about the merits and downfalls of brands (ie. outboards, boats, batteries, etc..) but not the people that made them.  But then that seems to change sometimes too.

I'd like to absorb your knowledge on this, like I try to do with most everything else.

Mixing things up keeps the Forum fresh.
I'll PM Dood, discuss and see if we can get this on board.

Fair enough?
Then again, you could just buy him lunch and let him tell you all about it.

I'm ok with posting this "scientific" data - please post some commentary about the way you tested also.  The results should speak for themselves without much else.

Rick I posted the results to my blog. That keeps it on neutral ground. I don't mind posting a link to the blog here or giving the link to anyone via PM, or just skipping the issue altogether. I did the test so I could give an honest opinion based on actual experience to the many inquiries I get regarding which additive to use.

I think you did a great job of objectively testing the products.  I use 2 of the 3 you rated at the top - lucky guess for me.  Thanks for the info BD  :salut:
