After looking for a awhile Finially found a Early 80's 17 in decent shape.
Transom & floor are in good, needs some overall cosemetic work etc.
? on floor paint.
The floor/deck has been painted, the paint is older & faded etc.
Would like to re-paint but have a concern with sanding (for the new paint to stick) with out damaging the existing diamond non skid surface.
Any suggest?

Post by: Blue Agave on September 08, 2011, 07:05:33 AM: Welcome HIFLUTIN.....Thats a tuff one, if you re-gel or repaint the floor kiss the diamond non-skid goodbye. You will have to re-apply a new non-skid coat. The most typical, is a uniform non-skid across the whole floor and or deck cap. Depending on your budget and or skill set you can have a patterned non-skid deck. When I did my floor, we used half inch tape running from bow to stern with a two inch gap between each strip of tape. My deck has smooth half inch stripes running from bow to stern like the old Sea Crafts, looks real sharp.

I'm sure others will chim in with ideas and tips. Good luck!

Lose the original non-skid if it's that bad, once you get the new stuff down like Blue said, you will be impressed, JD Dupree used some stuff (I can't remember the name) that looked awesome when done.

Yup - that stuff is even more "Sticky" I here... also a good choice.

Be sure to get the textured roller to apply it

Post by: LilRichard on September 08, 2011, 07:11:51 PM: Can't respond to Durabak, but with Kiwi grip it's easy. I've had it down over three years, and it's just starting to show minor stains / wear.
